R50/53 Canceling my order.
Why bother to respond this Hyper blue?! If he like boring and so called reliable Honda, then let him to do that.
1. As far as I know, Honda is one of the most stolen brand (car or parts)
2. Is Honda really trouble free.. I don't believe so, this guy need to believe a truth, there is no troble free car in the world. I have heard about the transmittion problem happen on Acura a couple years ago. (I believe is about the +/- auto trans), Honda about hide it for a few years and start recalling it last year. I wonder Honda keep it in secret is trying to avoid to hurt their reputation, but anyway I would like to buy a car that the manufacture will respond to fixing any defect.
Anyway, I wish Hyper blue can pick his favorite appliance.
(P.S. Mini cooper is a car, not an appliance)

Is the glass half full or half empty? It all the way we look at things. People post complaints because they want to take the best strategy to get the problem resolved and to blow some steam. The chances that you will buy the only Mini that does all the things listed are slim to none. You aren't that worried are you?
Although I guess if the car is on fire, the windshield will crack, the moon roof will explode, the heated seats and AC will stop working. Anytime a vehicle uses a volatile fuel there will be the possibility of something going wrong (i.e. fire). Honda's and all the other cars are subject to the same overall risk, some more than others of course.
Buy the MCS and enjoy life, you will be glad you did. Take care and good luck with your decision.

Hyper Blue,
The heated seats did stop working but it took six months before that happened. And you left out the part about the steering column going bad. And the dealer service..well neutral about that. No windshield problems to speak of. I do have the irregular idle(versus being regular..going daily, oops wrong topic) issue. Sunroof exploding? Ours is still in one piece and no leaks!
So I do/did have some issues but mostly minor ones. It's still fun to drive and I get 28mpg on the highway. Can't beat that with a stick.

Your way of thinking is wrong. You have just summed up all the POSSIBLE things that MAY happen by owning a MINI. There are lots among us that have never experienced ONE of those things you stated.
You are a very negative person.
All I can say is, by not getting a Mini Cooper S, the loss is yours. No one elses.

'04 MCS, had it a year and two months. Zero problems. Tons of fun. It's beautiful, and people tell me so all the time. Getting in it and driving it is still exciting, every single time. There is nothing like the feeling of owning and driving a car that is just so damn good, and cool, and smart, etc. etc. But I guess it's no Honda Civic.
Civic Nation, yeah! Sorry.

Folks, HyperBlue isn't the enemy here, and yet to many of these posts, I seem to be detecting a tone of anger, resentment and snarkiness towards him. (or her) Lighten up. It's normal to have apprehension and exaggerate problems especially when sinking a lot of money into something. Now instead of assuring him that these problems are isolated, you've demonstrated how mean and immature people can be. This thread is a stark contrast to the attitude I'd previously seen here. I'm sorry I took part in it earlier, but yeesh, i think things have gotten a bit out of hand.

1) I will have to replace my windshield at least once due to the complete lack of quality of the glass that comes with the car.
2) I will not get treated well by my dealership when I try to argue that the crack in my windshield was NOT caused by a rock.
3) I will not get treated well by my dealership when I try to get ANY warranty service done on my Mini.
4) There's a chance my car will ignite into flames while it's parked in front of my condo. (sorry Mike/Donna)
5) While I'm driving down the highway, my moonroof will explode because...well, just because, and my dealership will refuse to fix it under warranty.
6) One night, when I'm arriving home after a long day, I will take the key out of the ignition, but the car will keep running.
7) One hot afternoon, I will turn on the airconditioning, but for some inexplicable reason, the heater will go on.
8) My heated seats will stop working after a week.
9) My clutch will need to be replaced after only 12,000 miles.
10) And finally, someone will steal my aftermarket wheels & tires because the four-bolt pattern on Minis is the same as some older Honda Civics.
These are all things that I've read about on this forum just in the last few months, and I just can't help thinking, "Why in the hell am I buying a Mini Cooper when all these people are having all these issues with the damn thing?" I'm a Honda guy. I've owned three Hondas and one Acura. I've never, ever had a single problem with any of those cars. NOT ONE! So, somebody, ANYBODY, please explain to me why I shouldn't go up to Baron Mini (my dealership here in KC) tomorrow and cancel my order? I love driving the Cooper, but is it really worth all the stress and frustration that I've been reading about on this site?

I have a bad feeling you jinxed your next Honda Acura purchase, good luck anways though.
It's too bad you've let all the negative posts sway your decision. There's a whole bunch of us who love our MINIs. I'm on my second one(not because it was bad but I wanted a Cabrio) & have had no problems with either MINI. The buying experience was great at both dealers I bought from & the service dept has always been very helpful to me.
It's sort of like when I was pregnant with my son & being a pediatric nurse, I was convinced he was going to have every malady known to mankind
He didn't:smile:

I have owned 3 MINIs all bought new. Neither one of them has experienced problems with the windshield or any of the other issues hyperblue details in his post. These cars have been extremely reliable and have been used as daily drivers (Not garaged in weekend toys) and highway roadtrip cruisers. The MINI has not let us down so far and I expect them to continue to provide years of troublefree service and happy motoring.
[QUOTE=kbseto]well...you could and no one would stop you. but you gotta realize those on this forum are pretty much kinda nutty about our cars. for those who've had any kind of bad experience, they'll make sure we hear about it. and this is the place to vent and get the word out. or at least, to get some help and advice.
I did not see the end of your message, but if you are cancelling your order, I think that is an overreaction and a mistake. You should realize that, the reason the public/press has so much information about the issues/problems with the MINI is well, have you seen ANY car/brand with so much enthusiasm/scrutiny paid to it?? Absolutely not. Can you name one other car where there is such a huge amount of information, message boards, vendors, aftermarket products, etc. etc.? No- you cannot.
Remember, the initial quality surveys for the MINI were not high. And do you know what the #1 "quality" complaint was among new owners? That the cupholders were too small! Another complaint was that the sport suspension was too stiff... well, hopefully you get the idea. Complete nonsense. Most of the posts on this site are to participate in discussion and search for answers in a community.
The reason anyone participates in this site, pretty much they are crazy, you gotta believe it. Can you think of ANY car, in the history of autos, where the buyers are clamoring to locate/track their "on order" vehicles on the ships as they cross the ocean?? No- you cannot. So a search under "build thread" and see what you find. And guess what, I learned how to do that from this site, (on my recent '05 purchase, missed out on my '03, didn't know how), and it was a lot of fun!
You can meet a lot of sympathetic MINI owners through this site. I have always found the members to be willing to share info, and have learned a lot of useful things about my car and how to resolve problems- (I even learned how to get my gar into reverse from someone on this site... ! Right, sometimes you just could NOT shift an '03 into reverse...). I am not participating to be "hostile" to the starter of this thread...
The point is to take things in perspective. I turned in my '03 with nearly 40K, and never had any windsheild problems, peeling silver interior trim, or pretty much most of whatever else you have seen. But that doesn't mean other people have not, and I have found the discussions interesting and worthwhile. But if you are going to take them all collectively and assume you aren't going to get $20K worth of car, I think that is a mistake. I have also enjoyed my relationship with the dealer, and won't complain about service activities either...
Hey, the car has been on the market for 3 years. In my '05, I STILL get stopped and receive admiring comments. Although right now, I could have what, gotten a Saab (pretty much EVERY very car now has rebates/incentives/low financing!!), but in the end, driving a Honda as you mentioned is BORING.

dude, .. I'm not saying MINI are perfect .. but what kind of car is? Every car have their bad. I have a $45K BMW 330CI that have problem with the door seals all the time. Perhaps you think Honda are perfect, my friend's brand new civic (2K miles) transmission went dead on him. My neighbor has 2 mo. old Mercedes E320 that go in and out of dealer more than somebody change their underwear. Perhaps you thinking about Korean car ... why you think they offer 10 years warranty .. hmm
don't get me start on american's car.
don't get me start on american's car.
Harsh Audience!
Well, if the concerns about the car weren't enough, the dumping of judgemental wrath would scare me away! Why are so many assuming this person is a looser? Or woundn't be a good mini driver? Maybe just worried about a big commitment? Give the person a break, keep to the facts and stay of the judgemental bashing that assumes sooooo much that hasn't been stated. Thats just wrong.
I've owned both Hondas and the Mini (a long with lots of other cars) and the Mini is better than most, but not perfect.
But it is much more fun!
Matt

I think this thread has pretty much played itself out, and I really don't think any thing more constructive can be said on either side of this discussion.
What Hyper Blue does at this point is up to him and him alone, maybe he'll tell us his choice, maybe he won't.
But regardless, this thread is now CLOSED
