Creaking noise in steering wheel

Our car is at the dealer for a creaking noise when the steering wheel at near full lock. They are saying we've got a bad upper strut mount bearing and they've seen a number of these fail.

The noise is quiet but obvious and happens right around the last 5% of the wheel travel in either direction. This might be something to look for before your warranty runs out. Our car has about 25k on it.

creakcreak

I have an '03 MCS and when mine started creaking at the first turn of the wheel off center, I mentioned it and they replaced the steering column and the rack under warranty.....eight months or so later, it's doing it again, only when I turn it to the right and not very loud....going to take it in for the 25000 mile service and see if they think it needs another column......Bruce

Love This Car....
no stripes, no rally lights, no clear bras...thank you

If your MCS is a 2002 or 2003 model year, then you have the "Old" design steering column. The "Creaking" is caused by failed bearings in the upper steering column assembly.

Your dealer needs to replace, both the upper and lower steering column assemblies because the "Revised" upper column is not backwards compatible with the splines in the lower column, hence they need to yank out the entire column and fit a new one. After the installation, the dealer needs to do a full alignment and make sure the steering wheel is dead center.

It's an 04. Hopefully the bearing will take care of it, I'll let ya'll know on sat when we pick it up.

Until then I get to dominate the road in a rental Titan. That thing is huge and 100% motor
