R50/R53 :: Hatch Talk (2002-2006) Cooper (R50) and Cooper S (R53) hatchback discussion.

R50/53 is it wrong to want the rear fog just to have full switches?

I have actually just developed a kit to enable the 2005 rear fog light as a brake light.
Dave... does this kit require the wiring that is not present in early-build 05s?

As of now it does, I am looking into the cost of the plug and trying to see if it is worth build a kit with the plug. It can be done just sure if it is cost effective.

BZZZZ!! Wrong!

My early Aug build 05 S is prewired to the bumper cover. I confirmed this when the body shop replaced my bumper cover after an accident. Classic sold me the parts (toggle bank, lite, harness, and connector) for $78 total, and I'm getting my dealer to install and program it at my next service for about another $90. Full fog on, Jimbo

Jimbo, thanks for correct that , I am going wwhat Ihave read here on NAM that early 0's pre-sept do not have the wiring for the rear foglight. It must be there but just hidden.

Can someone clarify all this?
Your MA sounds confused. 05's don't have them in the tail light cluster.

Sweet! I think yours and mine were built very close together - within days of each other - so that is encouraging. I'll have to climb under mine to see if the wiring is there.

Your MA is out of touch, the blackout panel is where the light goes. It is the location of the back up lights on 2004 and earlier MINIs.

I have to say that I am one of them who wanted the rear fog just to fill out the panel. But now love how well the light works too. It is much brighter than the normal brake lights in the back, so they are easily seen by everyone. I feel safer with it on for sure. Also I love how the end of the switches light up too.

As mentioned before in this thread I always buy my OEM parts from Classic Mini (they give a deep discount to NAM members). I have a 2003 model and replaced the toggle bank with the new (full) one in less than 25 minutes. It really is easy to do.

I even upgraded the bulbs in my rear fogs. You want to talk about bright. P.E.R.F.E.C.T. for those really foggy days that we get once in a while here in western PA. Can never have enough safety options in my opinion. Just don't use them all the time, i.e. they should ONLY be used for foul weather driving, etc.
