I know this has been talked about a bit in the past but I wanted to see if anyone has had some recent experience with the dealer programmed options. I'm picking up my 2003 mini this afternoon (finally!) and the dealer has told me that the only options available are:
Daytime Running Lights
Follow me Home Lights
Auto-Locking after vehicle exceeds 10mph
1 press of the remote unlocks the driver door and the next press unlocks the rest of the car.

I really wanted the option that if you hold down the remote it opens the sunroof and the windows. I know a lot of you have this but Mini hotline told me today that they discontinued that option due to safety reasons....Has anybody else run into this?

Another thing I wanted was auto-unlock which many of you have indicated is possible when you put the CVT in park or when the parking break is put on. My dealer and Mini hotline have never heard of this and say there is no auto-unlock option.

Lastly, many of you have indicated that the wipers don't come on when you start the washers unless the dealer specifically programs this to happen.....Mini and dealer say that this should always happen automatically with no programming. I guess I'll find out on this later today.

I can't answer those questions, but i wonder who can do the programming? Does it have to go in to the dealer? Hmm...i wonder...

 

I've a 2003 model MCS (October build), and it came programmed with the feature that opens the windows/sunroof when you hold down the button on the remote, so I assume you can still get it. Happy motoring!

 

My Aug build 2002 MCS has the following programmed:

-Convenience Open: press and hold remote button to open all windows/sunroof
-Euro Parking Lights: with car off, indicate "right" or "left" with turn signal stalk to have just that side's parking lights on
-Speed Sensitive Wipers: when on the fastest setting, or as I like to call it "frenzy mode", if you slow down under 12 miles per hour, the wipers go back to intermitant
-Auto Lock: after driving away and going over 12 miles per hour, the car locks both doors
-Follow Me Home Lightinng: leave your lights on and turn off car, lights stay on for 40 or 90 seconds depending on what you decide to have programmed, then turn off

My car came with the ability to auto activate the wipers when washing the window. One thing to note on this, if you just do a quick burst of spray the wipers don't come on. You have to hold it for a second or two before they wipers come on. YMMV.

And as for the 2003 not allowing Convenience Open, well I think your advisor was mistaking that for Convenience Close. That is not allowed state-side to prevent injury as the MINI doesn't have inpact resistors that can tell when the window is hitting something (say an arm or a head). That is why it's only auto down, not auto up. Auto down won't hurt anyone.

Thanks for that info - very helpful. I'll press them on it this afternoon. Another example of just how unknowledgable our dealers are about our cars.

The hotline confirmed that the wiper varying with car speed could be programmed and just this weekend instructions were sent to dealer on how to set it so that the one press of the unlock does the whole car instead of just the drivers door.

This option can be programmed on the 03's mine has it enabled.

How ever I was told by my dealer that there was no headlight delay feature available (follow me home).

That is definitely available. It is one of the few things that my dealer actually offerred to program.

 

I picked up my MINI on Fri and I have convenience open in mine. (Already programmed) Also you can convenience close with the key in the door. Turn to the right and hold. Everything closes back up. Just not with the remote. I also got autolock @ 10 mph.

 

Thanks for all your help...I have picked up the car and couldn't be happier. After lengthy negotiations with the dealer mechanic I got all the options that I wanted and have confirmed the following.

The auto-window/sunroof open with the key remote is programmable. The auto close is possible if you put the key in the lock and hold it to the left for a few seconds. There are no US safety issues preventing this.

Auto-lock AND Unlock are possible. The lock kicks in at 5mph and the doors unlock when you turn off the ignition.

My follow me home lights are set for 60 seconds.

Speed sensitive wipers work and the wipers come on when washing the windshield.

Lastly I had them program the key so that one press of the unlock opens all the doors instead of having to press it twice....
