R50/53 Registration question
I would like to know if anyone has any experience in purchasing a new MINI from out of state. I just got my new MCS from the shipper today but my dealer did not put any sort of temporary driving permit on the car. Am I not suppose to drive the car? BTW, I am located in Southern California and I am still waiting for the correct paper work from the dealership so that I can go to DMV and register my car.
Anyone with similar experience can you please help!!!
Thanks.

20G,
The first thing you need is to get smog check, then take it to DMV for vehicle verification check and get the certificate. While waiting for other paper works from your dealer, you can start the registration process and be prepared to pay for used car sales tax, DMV will issue you a temporary permit to drive your new MINI.
Have your dealer send you the following paper works by next day delivery.
1. Certificate of Origination of the car.
2. Certificate of odometer reading (original required)
3. Bill of sale.
If you have all these paper works you can take care of your registration in one trip to DMV. Good luck and happy motoring.
Cheers,
John
