OK I had to come on here for a second to brag

My friend in Trojan Motorsports has a 400 hp EVO with a fully tuned suspension, and I have an almost stock MCS (springs, sway bar).

On my first track day ever (his 3rd or 4th) I beat him around Streets of Willow Springs for a few laps.

Streets is a very tight, technical course where his killer acceleration couldn't help him a lot. BUT - here's the rub - of the two I would want the EVO.

A couple other cars I beat that day...

A JDM engined WRX
3 or 4 VW R32s
and the uglest Civic hatchback I've ever seen (bright baby blue with red wheels )

All of them underestimated the MINI

My experience with EVO's on the track is they were quite fast. I got passed up several times by them, but when the day was over, 2 of them were going home on a wrecker

Is this 205 to the wheels for the MCS? Is that 310 hp at the wheels for the Evo? Evos generally put out 240 or so to the wheels so 310 to the wheels makes it pretty strong Evo and you'll have some challengers from the Evo boards if you claiming that a MCS is keeping up with a 310 whp Evo.

Missed that...310 whp translates to 364 hp at the flywheel. And how much torque does a stock Evo dyno at? 260? With 310 whp that must be close to 300 lbs of torque. That's a whole lot of torque. The MCS would have about 241 at the flywheel using 15% loss. The weight/hp ratio should be around 9 for the evo and almost 11 for the MCS. Okay, enough math...congrats on a fast MCS.

we were not talking about some guy who says hey I have a JCW kit so I have 210 HP or some guy who says hey I did x, y and z to me evo so I have X hp...we are talkin a obut two cars that wre Dynoed then raced with equal driver skill

more over if you wanna compare them all around...the evo is unstedy and sloppy...also the intierior is cery plasticy...the gear box is absolutly horrid as it's a slush box like I have never before expirenced....and if it was a 16 k like it should be it would be one of the greatest cars ever....but at 30 k + ...it is an absolute joke...not that is isn't fun...but if you are compareing them all around...the ONLY thing the evo has over the mini is AWD and the ability to be 600 hp...WOOOOPIE!!!

Oh yeah and the EVO raced was on Pure 110 octane...and the Mini Pump gas...since we have electronic timeing...had the Mini been on 101 and not 91 I think it might have made things different...

Gotcha, sorry. Your talking about two very specialized modded cars and I'm talking stock and works comparison. color my face .

I bought a Mini for styling and handling not speed.

Dido..all in all the mini is way kewler..that's all that matters...if I wanted to have a HP monster of a car I'd buy a 6 speed supra turbo and single it to make 850 HP...

it is fun sneeking up on people with a moded mini though....heh heh

I suppose. But its like sucker punching someone.

For HP monster I want simple american muscle. A 427 style Cobra kit car. (not sure if I would go 427 though). If not that an early nova.

you could say it's like sucker punching...but I look at it as the OL' david and goliath thing....I grew up understanding "driving" and power doesn't matter..hence I am a mini owner...but now I am in AZ with mostly straight roads and meat heads driving american muscle...and there is nothing more satisfing that bringing down a goliath...LOL....

I do like the corbra though...sexy beast she is

I looked at the EVO and the STI and while they are pretty stripped...thats what I want a track car to be. I hope people dont buy either of those cars and NEVER take them to an auto-x at the very least!

Some of you might recall that the first ('97) Integra Type R that came here to the states didnt have a radio, or A/C!! The horror!!!

I chose the mini because of the cool factor, the potential for a fun track car, the options...and Ive owned 9 hatchbacks....I just cant kick that!!!

Motortrend did a good article on the power of the EVO. They ran three of them on an all wheel dyno and got about 228hp at the wheels on all three of them. (http://motortrend.com/roadtests/seda...shi_evos_dyno/)

This is quite a bit lower than a lot of people claiming 250hp. Also 228hp at the wheels isn't too far off a lot of Minis, and the Mini is quite a bit lighter.

people who think evos and stis are fast stock have lost their minds... they are quick that's for sure but not fast, abd for me not 30k fast, if I had a house and multiple cars and so on I would get one cuz they are fun to mod and can get fast... however if you are looking for something nice, neither is a good choice honestly, most guys I know who mod and raly back home use these cars and they are terrible inside... it's almost as uncomfortable as my crotch rocket... as far as street cars go I wouldn't pay 30k for either unless it was for a weekender. when comparing cars though guys stock is stock modded is modded when mods come into play the model of the car is almost a moot point my 74 mini is running 300hp... can you guess how many mini origional parts are on the car... comparing modded car models is kinda counter productive compare the mod power to weight not the models of car... just my opinion

Are you trying to compare stock to stock because if you are then the 140-150 whp of the MCS is quite a bit aways from a 228 whp. The weight difference is 700lbs or so.

And if you look at the times of either the stock EVO or STI they are firmly in the mid 13's. A stock MCS is around 14.5-14.7. A tenth of second is usually worth a distance of one car length.

You'd be hard press to find any clean TT supras for a reasonable price. If I knew that they would be so popular I would have bought the last year they made it..especially since they dropped the price to 38k!

Beats me...Evos run A stock in the local SCCA Solo II autocrosses here and post times that are 3-4 seconds better then the fastest G stock MCS.

Yeah, they're overrated.

Yeah..damn kids!

Although, around here I've seen a couple of senior citizens driving EVO 8's and a 40 something year old driving an EVO MR.

edit: BTW, I am not an EVO owner..just someone who respects them. My wife says they are ugly and cheap looking! The boy in me says that's my kind of car!

If i take a Honda Accord, put AWD and turbo on it's 4 doors, slip on a lil wing or two, boyeeeee.... man this is one sweeet car, look at it go.

What I'm trying to say is, it takes a little more than AWD and turbo bolt on to impress me. I've got class. What Mitsubishi take me for? A dumb ****?

Second only to the Carrera GT around a short road course. All cars driven by the same professional driver...........

http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=130754

I'm a 45 year old professional and the Evo is my kind of car too. I don't give a flying ****** what my neighbours or work assocaites think. I think too many people buy cars for the badge & image.....I wonder how many people on here would be driving around in the MINI if the marque had been resurrected by Kia or Hyundai rather than BMW

Rant over.........please forgive me Father for I have sinned.

Assuming the car turned out the same (who knows if that would have happened) I would have bought it and I bet most people on this forum would have too. People bought this car cause it looks great and is a blast to drive. As long as it still did those 2 things, I don't care who owns it or designed it. Sheesh how many people know it 's made by BMW cept real car nuts anyway.. Not a single coworker I talked to knew it when I got mine.

I don't know what forums you have been reading, but at least that is how it seems to me.
Blah I am done now

Second only to the GT from the cars on the list. This car will smoke the EVO, and eat the GT for dessert.

http://www.openwheelers.com.au/video...ll_segment.mpg

50mb download.

A real race car, not some family sedan wanna be.

Btw, BMW was not the only company in charge of the new MINI. Heard of a company called Rover? They did alot of work on it too.

And if you think people bought the MINI because of BMW you're so wrong. If KIA were responsible for the MINI in it's current form, that would make KIA become one of the best Automakers in the world.

It just so happened that BMW and the MINI complimented each other well, hence what we have.

Dude, you must have a real hard on against the EVO. It's a 30k car that beats on more expensive cars and can haul around people and it's something the average person can buy.
