Totally happy with 2002 MCS - 8700 miles, NO PROBS, other than a parking light out and the regular cold start issues that are non-existent since the weather turned colder...I'm still looking forward to the first scheduled maintenance that is coming soon...

I have nearly 4k on my 2002 MCS. Boot rattle, fixed it with some duct tape wrapped around the contact point, the cold start problem which somehow went away completely 3 weeks ago (with no ECU upgrade), and just a couple of rattles (driver side seat belt retractor and center dash heating vent). I love this car more than any other that I have owned simply because it is so much fun to drive. I have the leatherette seats also and they are fine. I can't wait to do some performance work on my MCS down the line (performance tires, JCW Upgrade?, and...). Don't worry about the car, drive it and enjoy it!
Many issues, but I still love the car.
6k miles....
1. cold start issue, resolved by a software update
2. AC unit not charged at delivery
3. trunk latch replaced due to rattle from improper latching
4. coolant issue.. overflow tank needed to be replaced twice
5. water pump leaked/died, waited 5 days to get car back
6. passenger side seat stuck
7. rubber on foot pedals fell off, they forgot to glue them on
8. power steering belt tensioner froze up and was replaced
9. now has a rattling of sunroof
10. rattle, rattle, rattle. Dealer put a layer of felt between dash and mount and it is impoved
11. my biggest issue was lowsy service. I am lucky to have two dealers within a reasonable distance. Peabody is great.

Count me in as another very satisfied MINI owner. Our '02 MINI Cooper CVT (Early August build) with close to 3K+ miles has been fantastic.
Onlu issue has been a replaced boot latch mechanism (New one works much better and smoother than the factory unit) and some idle issue with a cold engine that hopefully will be ironed out when CD update #33 becomes available to MINI dealers in February.
The car has been excellent, no rattles, impressive build quality, comfort, powerful and fuel efficient, superb handler and just fun, fun to own and be seen in!.
We took our Cooper CVT last weekend to Disney World in Orlando, FL (500 mile roundtrip) and the car was fabulous...never expected so much comfort and solid stable feel and high speeds for such a small car....18-wheeler truck air turbulence doesn't seem to bother a MINI going at 85MPH one bit...truly amazing.
The MINI has completely changed my previous perception about well engineered small cars and I am sure it will do the same for you.

8400 miles and no problems (knock on wood). I love my MINI! Still have 3100 to go until maint. Going to the track in April and May to really push the car hard. Get your MINI...you will not regret it!
20500 miles on my S. Average about 142 miles per day in the 144 days that I have had the car. The only problems were the airbag light and the coolent. Other than those minor events we FLY.
I dont consider anything that has happened to my Mini a problem. I love it too much to get me mad at all. When the shift cable upgrade was on backorder for 2 months and then driving one day the prooblem strukc me, I was like" oh well, I'll have her back by Friday". With my last car, anytime anything went wrong I was pissed for hours. Now it does not bother me. I guess that is because I knew I was getting a new car and was expecting to have some things go wrong.
I would do it all over again if I had to!! I love her! (don't tell my wife I said that!)

just about at 5K, no problems mechanically at all, a dream to drive.
the boot rattles on ocassion, but I can take that in to be looked at.
My run-flat light has come on twice for no reason, i reset and it was fine.
those really aren't a problem nor did they frustrate me at all. I love my car, she's the best car EVER!!

I've been following this and Mini2 and reall don't know what concern your talking about. Squeaky seats? Rattle in the hatch? Seat belt light? People that complain about nit's like this, especially since almost without exception they are fixed, really are living too perfect a life. About the only consistent serious thing I've seen is the gearshift problem in the 5-speed, and that has been dealt with. I don't know, maybe I've had too many years with (real) British cars to niggle.
I have 13k on mine and the car just keeps surprising me as to it's capabilities and fun factor. Not to mention the attention it gets. You will love this car.

I love my Mini, except for the fact that the cigarette lighter turns off with the ignition switch. Now I don't use it to light cigarettes but I do plug my GPS into it and park the car and come back hours later and find that the batteries on the GPS are dead. Don't know why they designed the system to do that. I talked with my dealer about this fack and they said a lot of people have complained about this and that a change may be in the works.

I have over 12,000 miles (I like to drve) and I have only experienced minor cosmetic defects.
PJ will be crashing for the winter (due to my driving habits). Got a bitchin' Beretta for the brutal Chicago weather.
