Surprising Insurance Quote

My dad called the insurance company today, to see how much my insurance will go up when I get my new car. It's only going to go up about $9 a month. That's going from a 2 year old automatic Saturn sedan that's worth about $10k, to a brand new 2005 MINI Cooper Convertible with a manual that's worth about $23k.

I was pleasantly surprised by how small of an increase it is.

Surprisingly, they also said that no matter what MINI I buy...MC, MCS, MCC, or MCSC...the insurance rate is the same. Interesting...

I'm changing to AMEX Assurance Company (going thru COSTCO) and am getting an awesome rate. Saving 700.00/yr versus Allstate who I've had for the last 15 years. But anyhow, I have a $10k 2002 Dodge Neon and it's MORE expensive to insure than the $23k 2003 MINI Cooper S!!!! I guess the insurance actuarials don't lie. The MINI is one hell of a safe car!

Yup I was stoked when State Farm quoted me less than a thou/year for my 05 S hatch (clean record, mlim). It's because they're strong little cars that hold up well in collisions--and they have back seats. Jimbo

Must be nice...mine is still going to be about $2000. Gotta love being a teenager.

Got you beat. My MCS only cost about $80 some-odd dollars a year more to insure than my '97 Escort with 97k miles (which I know is still on the road with 120k+ miles!)

sweet

I never would have guessed how cheap these cars are to insure, but I'm not complaining.

I'm going from $396 per year to $776. (250/250 deductible, Total loss protection also)

Though in all fairness, the $396 is for a 71 Beetle (full coverage though).

I have insurance through USAA.

I was SOOO happy! I had a '92 Celica Convertible -- just about anything is safer than that car!!

I could be mistaken but I believe the MINI is considered an economy car therefore it is quite cheap to insure. It probably also has to do with those who buy them in that they don't get in many accidents, though that's a simple guess.

My insurance, through Mercury at age 24 is around $1200 a year, with a clean record and full coverage. That's down from my Dodge Pick-Up by about $200 a year, despite an increase of nearly $7000 in the value of the MINI vs. the Dodge. I was so pleasantly surprised when I got my quote.

Oh, for the record I've got an MCS that MSRPs for something like $26K (I think).

I was also pleasantly suprised by what I pay for insurance on our Mini Cooper. We also have a 2000 Honda Civic EX 4 door, and the Honda is about $100/year more expensive than the Mini - and worth about half of the Mini.

Of course Hondas tend to suffer from extremely high theft rates Been there, expereinced that, don't want to do it again Although it was actually with an Acura. Twice

My new 2005 MCS is insured with a 250 deductable for about $336/6 months, through USAA. Thats about a hundred bucks cheaper than my 2000 Acura Integra. Very nice!

I went from collision only on an 82 Toyota Cressida with 190,000 miles to comprehensive on a new 03 MCS and my insurance went up by about $100 for 6 months.
