The lid of the passenger-side (right side) sun visor is missing, so I bought a couple of R56 full mirror assemblies (in case I need to sacrifice one for parts or make adaptations) with the light lenses. They should arrive soon.
In the meantime, since I was also replacing the bulbs with LED ones, I started working on the driver-side sun visor. At some point I decided to remove the full mirror assembly (stupid me — I should have left it alone since it was in pristine condition).
It wasn’t easy, but I eventually managed to remove it by [not-so] carefully prying with a screwdriver.
Also, when removing it, some very small plastic pieces fell out, so it’s possible I broke something else in the mounting mechanism.
My problem: Now I don’t know how to put everything back together, particularly I wasn't able to see what role these two metal clips play and where/how they need to be fitted.
Has anyone done this job before and can share their experience?
Thanks in advance for any hint!
PS: In order to try to make the reassembly task easier I decided to remove the whole sun visor.
These pesky screw caps / finishers were hard to remove without marking them. I would like to 3D scan them and share the 3D models, unfortunately I don;t have a 3D scanner, only a digital caliper and a cell phone. Any suggestion on how to do this is welcome!
It has been many years but - I believe; The 2 metal "retainers"/pieces plug into the open slots behind the mirror cover hinges.
looking at my current visor; it looks like the open ends of the metal pieces face towards the front of the mirror cover into those slots and the curved side towards the visor.
I believe they help hold the cover open when the mirror cover is rotated upwards.
