R50 ignition switch, starter or wiring? no code

hey all! my 03 R50 starts intermittently but when it won't it won't and no code. no problem with accessories or dash and headlights, all getting power. i was getting it to start with a jump so i put the voltmeter on the battery and it was a bit low at 12.5. also checked with it running and had a good 14.5 reading so i replaced the battery with an optima red top (the car sits a lot). still having intermittent start issues. i thought it was fine and drove to the store but it wouldn't start up again after shopping after about ten tries. with some help i bump started it and drove it home. when i got home and shut it off it started right back up again. i recently did a head gasket, valve job and some other stuff so things got jostled around but not finding and bad wires. the car runs amazing/like new after the work i did but only when i can start it. any thoughts?
