2004GTI 1.8T vs. 2005 MCS

Hey,
I am looking to get a MCS (going to do my first test drive in 2 weeks) The mini, if i got it, would be hyper blue w/ bonnet stripes, auto, and sport package. I have also heard that Cali mini dealers are a reall pain, is this true (the one nearest me is Universal City Mini)? How do I make my mini "experiance" w/ the dealers less of a hastle? Is it true that mini dealers mark up the prices alot b/c my budget is 25K.
Thanks for ur input!!

Brecht Mini here is San Diego does mark their cars up quite a bit. 10 - 15% or something like that. The mark up is negotiable and they do have cars right there to drive away.

I don't think we can catagorize all California Mini dealers as a "pain". Hopefully you'll get a good "motoring advisor" when you go, but you certainly should shop around.

Test drive in So Cal, order from Jerry at Mini of the Hamptons.

That's what I did, and I couldn't be happier. The car was MSRP, shipping was $500 and Jerry arranged everything.

Just had to pick up the car (another $150 will get it to your door, I think), get a smog check, and go to the DMV to get it registered. Somewhat of a hassle, but certainly worth the $1000 I saved over dealing with Brecht. Brecht is nice enough, but I'd rather not give my business to a dealer that marks up their cars.

They had lots of cars on the lot when I was up there a month or 2 ago, so their mark-ups may have gone down in the past year.

Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions.

The Mini dealer in Torrance is selling at MSRP. Check them out. If you do buy out-of-state, also consider Julie Saxa at Classic Mini in Mentor, Ohio...440.266.6700. Great service, friendly, and you get 20% off accessories.

no contest even... MCS

i drove the 1.8t, while i have to say it is a nice car, and mucho better than the VR6 in the corners.. neither can hold a candle to the mini... sure its a bit more uncomprimising, but that's the charm of a mini.. with a golf u look like everything else on the road!

golf are more practical, their build quality though i think its quite questionable as the material used in the GTI i drove is pretty bad... as well, i heard VW service is among the worst in the world!

not to bash the GTi, i think its a nice car, but against a mini in my opinion just isnt a fair comparison

Agreed, I get much better service in my MINI compared to my old GTI, even when she was under the 'warranty'

VW service is completely **** poor.

PS. Buy out of state, its easy
