R50/53 A question for the safety mavens...
>>>>The DSC should compensate in this scenario by applying brake force to the inside rear wheel, thus creating drag and slowing/stopping the rate of spin. Applying the above would not be overcompensating, however, with the DSC might correct most of the problem before you can even react.

>>And, most un-nervingly, the DSC feels like it is making the engine starve out -- loosing power.
I forgot, the other part of the DSC program is to reduce power by retarding ignition timing and/or reducing throttle.

Well I am not sure if I'm part of the 'club' you refer to and I did see your other topic posted about driving stupid fast or fast stupid or whatever but, in any event, I'll take a stab at responding, although indirectly. I am fascinated over your supercilious attitude toward any comment advocating driving on public streets within the law. All over this site, the crap just rains down when safety is advocated over "***** out" driving. Frankly, my concern stems from you and others (including myself) being hurt and I fear your misplaced confidence that you can control any situation and that there is seemingly nothing to be unexpected, as you've alluded to in the posts on your fast/stupid topic. Countless things can go astray, not work as they should, respond in unexpected fashion, etc. and in a car at high speed, a minimal split second error, mistake or whatever and you'll be "liquid red" all over the pavement. Just look at the different responses to this post. Millions of people are driving who do not have one clue of what to do in far too many situations on the road. I guess this all troubles me because I have a friend who had and drove with the same over confident attitude you seem to display and after his accident on a mountain road, where the unexpected unfortunately happened to come about, he has a plate in his skull and his passenger is dead. It is with far too much regret that I know of many, many more such stories. NONE of this is meant in criticism, only concern. Expect the unexpected. Drive safe. Happy holidays.

RJSquirrel,
It is not a good thing to respond to flame bait unless you're prepared for the ensuing flame war. He's accomplished exactly what he set out to do. You just happened to be the one he convinced to respond accordingly to his bait.
Anywho, good luck. I'm staying clear of this one...

Liquid_Yellow and all other new MINI drivers (inlcudes me), The best way to find out how your car handles at the limit and how to properly react, is to push it to it's limits, safely of course. Go to a local track or a good back road that doesn't have any cars on it and good visiblity. Just go 40-50 slam on the brakes and learn how it feels. Go 20-25 and turn and slam on the brakes. First try it with DSC on and then with it off (big difference). After you know how it reacts slowing increase your speed (to somewhere BELOW stupid fast) and then you will not be afraid to push you car to it's limit to avoid an accident or something (ie. for fun). Motor On.

Thanks for the "good wishes" but, I wasn't intending to inflame anyone. Just expressing concern. I grew up near Van Nuys Blvd. and Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles, two of the most (in)famous street racing locations there are and I get what it's all about. Also, I'm a litigation attorney and deal daily with things gone wrong, so I guess I am overly sensitive to the concepts of risk and possibilities. By way of further example, besides the accident I referred to, I once represented a F-1 driver who became a parapalegic because of an (unexpected) accident. Now there's a man who is/was one of the most highly trained drivers on the planet and a situation arose that despite all his training, he could not control. S&*t happens! In any event, I've been more than insulted several times on this site for expressing a view for being on the "safe" side. If the concept of safety offends anyone, I'm sorry but, don't we all get our opinion. I wasn't intending to battle, just express concern. If that makes me a "safety maven" and that's a bad thing, oh well. Just looking for us all and these wonderful little cars to stay in one piece. Peace
