Since fitting a ported and polished BVH and cam, my rocker arm dampeners make a top end clicking sound because they keep seizing.
Ive free’d them up once in an ultrasonic cleaner and then soaked them in clean oil. Cars got fresh oil and filter.
I also bought a reconditioned oil pump, crank case cover as a bolt snapped in it, when doing timing chain.
Just wondering what could be causing the issue before spending money on new rocker arm set and potentially causing the same issue if there is an issue not picked up by sensors in the oil system.
However this ticking sound is causing an issue with compression and wouldn’t mind getting it sorted.
"reconditioned oil pump" - why? New ones are not that expensive (check out Melling M480)
Hi mate, thanks for your message. I bought one reconditioned due to one of the belt tensioner bolts snapping off in the case, removal wasn’t happening and I needed it being put back together so the engine wasn’t open to the elements as it was fitted to the car.
Is there a normal oil pressure figure I could look at through an OBD Reader and compare to see if the reconditioned crank case cover & pump is an issue?

The oil pressure switch mounted to the oil filter housing triggers the idiot light on the dash at a set pressure (I forget what it is, but it’s very low), and that’s it. So, no, you can’t pull oil pressure from the OBDII port.

Ahh right, what would your advice be to cover all basis alongside new rocker arms to ensure oil pressure isn’t a problem in the future if there’s a chance it could be right now?
There’s no wear on them or the spark plug cylinders. And last time the ticking went away for a short while when I ultrasonic cleaned the rocker arms and then soaked them in fresh oil. But didn’t last long. Leading to thinking it’s the dampeners. However wondered if anything could make them go bad like oil pressure and how I could make sure it doesn’t happen again when I buy new rocker arms.

I’m not really the best person to ask about that, but as far as monitoring oil pressure, some people install a fitting on the oil pressure housing so that they can add an auxiliary oil gauge and sending unit. I’ve got one that I keep meaning to install. That said, you didn’t mention having the idiot light for oil pressure come in, did you?

No not had the idiot light at all, but not sure why the rocker arms have seized back up unless there’s an oil pressure issue or a blockage in one of the oil galleys in the rocker arm shaft. I’ve ordered some cleaning brushes and will have a go at cleaning it thoroughly along side any other oil passages through the cylinder head before buying new arms. Think I’m going to ping the spark plug cylinders aswell while I’m at it just to cover all aspects.
losing hope tbh, it’s one thing after the other lmao.
I had the same noise. I just jumped in and bought a new motor, but discovered after pulling the old 60k motor that the cam was indeed hitting the spark plug tubes. I'd check there first. Just my .02.

When I take the rocket cover off and rocker arms, I’ll give all the journals a clean and tap the spark plug tubes and check for wear.
Unsure if heat and centrifugal forces after expanding is what’s making them hit, but it makes the noise from cold and I checked clearance on fit of the cam and the lobes didn’t make contact at any point.
I’ve replaced all the filter housing & cooler seals on Friday just passed.
