Wanted to see if anyone has been able to successfully remove the D pillars. I am trying to replace my antenna base that broke from an automatic carwash. While I have bent enough of the roof liner to get access to connections and nut, I would like to understand if there is a right way or a trick to getting the pillar cover off so have better access to that area. Between having a obnoxious rattle when when I am backing down my driveway, planning to do a front/rear dash cam, and the headliner needs some desperate attention, I'd like to know how to properly remove it.
I was able to pull the inner most side off the columns (closet to the hatch), which had almost a J hook to it. It doesn't seem happy as it doesn't go back as nearly flush as it was originally, but there seems to be another connection point directly by the airbag. I can only see some sort of tab with fabric which might connect to the airbag?
Looking at a used version on AllMag: https://www.allmagautoparts.com/prod...622b1b50&_ss=r I can see that similar tab and cut fabric.. It this my culprit? Any how to guide or video would be greatly appreciated. I have exhausted youtube and it seems everyone skips that portion of trim removal or headliner repair/removal. 😑
The trim pulls straight off, there is plastic tabs with small metal retainers. If not lined up correctly when installing these plastic tabs will break, or bend, and it will not fit great. The safety strap for the airbag is to save the trim piece from flying around the vehicle if the airbags are deployed. Should not have to remove this trim completely to get under the headliner down enough to gain access to the antenna.
Yep and the tabs, metal parts sometimes like to stick in the metal body and then you have to pry them out to hook back on the plastic. Might also have to bend those tabs back correctly to snap back in.
