Manual transmission swap/ engine removal

As the title says I'm manual swap my mini, after dealing with auto transmission problems I decided to swap it. and removing the engine to do it so.
With the engine out should I do a timing chain service and replace the head gasket? Even though it's no giving me any sings of failure? Engine as 180000km and been well maintained.

Also is anyone interested on me to document the process?

Service is never a bad thing and with that milage I would do the timing chain kit. Personally I would leave the head gasket alone as "if it ain't broken don't fix it".

Also I love to follow threads with progress updates. The NAM community is great and very supportive if you run into trouble during your adventures.

I would consider also replacing the camshaft sensor o-ring, front & rear engine seals and the water pump if it hasn't been replaced previously. You'll have easy access to all these with the engine out and it will save you grief in the long run.

Last year I replaced water pump and camshaft o ring (was definitely leaking!) when I did the supercharger service

As I am from Europe my options differ from the USA people around here. But since you stated your mileage in km I think you are too.

I would go for a Febi or INA one, including the sprockets.
