Question about gauge installation

I am in the process of install a gauge pod in my '06 JCW GP, and I have a question about the Volt and Boost gauges. Should these illuminate when the headlights are on? I sort of expected them too, and while the gauge appears to be working, they do not illuminate. Before I get too deep in the install, I'm just trying to find out if I possibly did something wrong. Attached are a couple of pics.....seems like the 2 orange bulbs stay on all the time, does that seem correct?

TIA!

-Andy

Were they installed using the factory wiring adapter that taps between the cars wiring harness and the toggle switch bank? The instructions don’t say how the LED’s should light up, but I would think going this route for the connection would make them light with the rest of the gauges and dash lighting via the headlight switch vs being controlled by the ignition switch.

A link to the MINI installation pdf is in the product description here: https://www.minimania.com/part/NMI76...-Mini-Cooper-S

edit: re-read your post and the LED’s not illuminating at all could be from being installed backwards in the housings. Step 9 says the positive of the LED should be on the white lead.

Yea, should not stay on all the time when i remember seeing those back in the day. Should be hooked into a power turn on or powered when headlight light is on.

yeah, it appears the dash illumination/lights from the back of the radio did nothing for me. Unsure why or if it actually was improper instructions I was given. I used the MINI Manual I have and was able to find a source. The guages are now functioning as they should. Thank you for the reply.
