Is the crank position sensor a common failure point?

I’m going to be taking my R52 into front end service mode soon to change my knock sensor. I’m wanting to knock out (no pun intended) some other maintenance things while I have it apart. I plan on changing the supercharger oil. I’m wondering about the crank position sensor. Is it a common part to go bad? Should I change it while I’m that far deep? Is there anything else I should do while I’m in there? Thanks! Car has 70k miles

It's usually the crank position sensor's o-ring that fails. A new one applied with some blue PERMATEX is good preventative maintenance.

Replace the harmonic damper too while you're in there. Mine crapped out on a road trip near 600 miles from home a couple years ago.

Ok I’ll look into that balancer. And sounds like I’ll do just the o-ring then. Thanks!

Plan on changing the o-rings for the water pump and flange too since you’ll be removing the supercharger.
