Single turbo questions

I haven't seen many single turbo setups on the R53's. I searched through some threads, but couldn't find what I was really looking for.

The custom rear mounted exhaust manifold would be a little tricky, maybe with v-band piping, and an external wastegate for a set boost psi.

I was wondering if its possible to use the intake manifold from the base model, on the S engine, essentially just completely deleting the supercharger setup.

Oil/coolant feed/drain is needed for the turbo.

After that, plum the intake piping like a normal turbo car, and throw injectors and a tune at it.

I think I read that tuning was the real catch before, are there any tuning options for a setup like this now?

Don't get me wrong, I love the supercharger, but you can make 300+ whp on any almost any shitty old turbo.

Front mounts, injectors, exhausts, and tunes all have been done for big power on S/C cars. Whats the big deal for a simple single turbo setup?

Edit. I guess a water pump solution would be needed as well since its driven by the S/C.

1320 mini in the UK has a kit that they install. They list everything they use so that could be a good look. https://www.1320.co.uk/1320mini-turbocharger-kit. This is their turbo kit but they also have a borg warner kit.

"Product no longer available." Could it be the $15,000 price? You could build an entire high-HP forged engine for that amount of money.

My system uses an R50 alternator, electric W/P, R53 intake with remounted T/B.

You can use the R50 W/P & Alternator setup but it will require some alignment adjustments for the pulleys if I remember correctly (it's been a while)

As for the hot side, external Wastegate tend to be an issue because of space and the complexity of the manifolds, it may be different with a custom "log type" manifold, but that would just need to be experimented with.

Head work would be a must to make any real power.

Might not be what your looking for, but see my thread from post #24 on, for my install.
