Greetings all. Newbie member but I have been lurking for a while. New to R53's but have quite a bit of automotive knowledge and car building. I resurrected a 2006 R53 that I got from a friend of a friend. Was leaking oil and PS fluid like a sieve and had all kinds of questionable maintenance. 150K+. It had a mess of codes including the P1498. Resealed the engine, dropped subframe and installed new rack, new timing chain and gears, ATI balancer, plugs, wires, S/C service and much much more. It got all new intake manifold and S/C seals and gaskets including the vacuum line port clip(s) into the intake. The car (and engine) run great. It's got a 15% pulley on it but I believe otherwise completely stock. Appears a previous owner installed a new TB (probably trying to rid of the P1498). I got all codes to disappear except P1498 and I've been driving it without transferring the title for over 9 months now. Really need to solve so I can get the car legal. Code comes back almost immediately. I have smoked the intake and that did not reveal any leaks. I'm looking for any additional hints. I can watch the MAP on my scan tool but I know there are two MAP sensors (pre and post SC), so not sure which one the scan tool is looking at. Any data on what the threshold value is for this code? Preferably raw voltage data where I can scrutinize the MAP sensors. Appreciate any help. Thanks.
Similar issue happened on my car, got SES light + P1498 + EML light. Came right back each time I tried to erase it. Car seemed to run fine though. Turned out to be fuel pressure regulator vacuum pipe:
The rubber boot at the supercharger discharge horn end wears out from heat / age and won't stay on. Replacement part is available at some of our vendors with a part number search or you can cobble together a new boot end from the Dorman Help section at your local parts store.
Item #13 on the list: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=13_0978
You can search for 'Nick English' on YouTube and then further search for 'P1498' on his channel for a quick video on the subject with visuals as to location etc. For whatever reason I'm unable to post the video here on this thread.
Would also suspect supercharger inlet pipe, at the green gasket, bypass valve hose connection, or the two red ringed vacuum line connectors (one for TMAP, one for the brake booster); although smoke test may have already ruled these out (not sure).
Also dealer notice in 2004 for the intake pipe having a faulty weld. Part number remains the same so not clear if the flaw was ever fixed in later production: https://www.minimania.com/msgThread/...er-_P1498_code

Hey I’m new around here, but I just wanted to take a minute and thank you for this post. I’m not a mini guy, but I just replaced the clutch (and a bunch of other stuff) in my mother-in-law’s 06 Cooper S. I had this code, and I could not for the life of me figure out what my problem really was, until I read this. I must have knocked that hose to the regulator off when I took the intercooler off. But just like you suggested, that hose had pooped off, and set that code. Thanks a bunch!
