I need your help , I have a 2004 Mini cooper S, manual transmission
I got the circle with exclamation mark light on, and the tire light.
So I had my buddy clear the codes. I wanted to see if any new and all codes.
So he he did, now the car starts and drives in 1-5 gears, did not test rest of gears.
But while the car is running I select reverse and the car shuts off, everything all warning lights and the engine.
I put the key in on position, all warning lights come on, and with car off, I put in reverse and all warnings lights go off. like some one unplugged the battery.
I cannot figure this one out.
Any suggestions?

did you ever figure out what is causing it to die in reverse

 

May sound silly or perhaps unlikely(?)...
But could there possibly be a frayed wire leading from the reverse switch on the transmission causing some kind of a short?

 

I'm with Here2Go, I would start with the Reverse Light Switch, unplug that baby and see if you have the same issue
