Wheel skipping in winter

I am calling on the experience of other motorist for help on this one. I have had my MINI garage since september, weather was still quite warm. I remember the MINIs great take off the line. Sometimes I would get the tires to chirp in first, but very rarely in second(only if i were being REALLY aggressive) Anyway, now, its JAN and quite cold, my junker is kinda in the off line so I will be driving the MINI for quite a while, maybe even through to summer. I have been unable to shoot off the line like I used to. I skip almost every time I try to "take off." It's really starting to be annoying. BTW, i know its tire slip because the ASC is blinking.

I would like to know if anyone else has had exp with excess tire skip in winter when the streets are cold. Obviously the temperature has a difference in grip, but is it THIS signifigant. Please help me!

Your neighbors will think you're nuts, but it sounds like you need to do that little Formula One "scrubbing" thing to get those tires warmed up!

Im not sure though. This just seems really bad. I posted this because I was taking this Red-something off the line. I had her SMOKED, but then I got to 2nd and it felt like the engine killed. Needless to say, it appeared as if I was new to the Manual world. So embarassing. I dont know.

yup, that's about right. the ASC is tuned really agressive to kill the engine. to make this worse, you proabably have performance tires since you only drove it in the summer. The performance tire get to be like rock at cold temps. The all-season are only slightly better. i've done the same thing a couple of times. it does help a little if you let off the throttle (even though the engine is already killing you). the ASC relaxes a little and you can actually accelerate again.
