Strut Mount Cover with Konis

05 MCS here. I replaced my front struts with Koni yellows about a few ago. I replaced the strut mounts at the same time. Shortly thereafter, one of the strut mounts failed (like 6 months later). I've since replaced both mounts and added a tower reinforcement plate.

I was concerned that water/dirt may have contributed to the early failure of the strut mount, so I bought strut mount covers (BMW part 31311139453). Unfortunately, the cap does't fit on the mount because of the adjustment tab on the Yellows:

I drilled a hole in the plastic cap and shoved it over the Koni adjustment tab so it kind of sits snugly on the mount. Kind of:

But this seems like a very flawed solution.

Has anyone dealt with this issue with Koni Yellows? And do you think covering the strut mount actually has any value?

Thanks in advance.

Doubtful needed, since those using adjustable camber plates have that area at least partially covered. Access to mine was quite limited but I found this modified tool which works great: TCK Rebound Adjuster USD $24.00

I wonder why Mini didn't include something like this from the factory.

Did the same thing on my OEM dust caps but drilled out a 9/16" hole instead. I wasn't overly concerned with dirt or moisture as I was bothered by having to look at the bolt and all those nuts.
Lightly painted the nuts and adust tab black.

BTW: Thanks for the solution @Oldboy Speedwell
