Hahaha! I appreciate it though. Now I know never to leave my car turned on when I am filling up. Learned it the hard way. Thank you.

welcome buddy !!!!! Don't EVER be afraid to ask questions. It's stupid when people don't ask and just assume they know everything... THATS stupid...
your evap leak may be fixed but you may have issue with the purge valve IF these cars have that but it's pretty easy to rig up a smoke tester to use on these cars to check for vacuum leaks.. need a swishersweet cigar and a 10$ fluid transfer handpump from an autoparts store... if you want more info I can post a link showing the process..
Thank you very much MiniManAdam. I will not stop asking questions do not worry. What is the purge valve? And this might be a bad time to bring this up but I remember some times at idle the car sounds like its struggling to stay on (with the gas cap on and closed). I give it a bit of gas to stay on and once I rev it a bit it goes back to normal and it idles perfectly fine. No idea what that means but I feel as if that has something to do with this.

Try six months straight. Lived most of my adult life in Alaska. It's dangerous and pointless. And it makes your car run like ****.

"Why all the flame?" Don't pop off like a know--it-all, cuz you aren't. I asked as kindly as I could what his reasoning was, in hopes that I could kindly and respectfully address the faulty reasoning.

First, welcome!

Good on you for being here, and asking questions. None of us were born automotive geniuses, although now some of us are. Seriously, what I know about cars I've taught myself over the last 40+ years, by reading, asking questions, and being a member of quality forums (once the internet was invented).

Have you bought a code reader yet? There's a huge range of options out there, but you could start with a cheapo one to get you the basic codes (I'm assuming money isn't unlimited for a 16 year old). That can help you start tracing the idle issues you're having.

With respect to leaving it running while fueling--not sure where you live, but in many parts of the country, not only is it wise not to leave it running, but I'd also recommend taking the keys out of the ignition while you are out of the car so someone can't just jump in and drive off. Even if you don't live in a high-crime area, it's a good habit to develop so when you are traveling, you always do the same thing.

Thank you very much. I have a small code reader which the screen is the size of my palm but it does not even work with my car I think its not compatible. It is a CAN OBD II Scanner Tool. I went to auto zone and they told me the most likely solution is a crank pulley but I have the 2% enlargement pulley from alta. Or else my alta crank pulley is actually messed up? I also got 3 codes from the report I got from when they hooked their computer in the mini;

P1688: Monitoring of Mass Airflow
P0507: Idle Air Control System RPM Higher Than Expected
P1477: Leakage DIagnostic Pump Reed Switch Did Not Open

This is off-topic but does the code P1477 mean my bypass valve is shot?

I live in the United States. Everyone in my family drives and they all keep the cars on when they fill gas.

Pretty sure that’s the leak detection pump for the evap system. You may have caused some of those codes by idling with the cap off. Did you ever get an MIL?

Malfunction indicator light. AKA check engine light.

I’m not convinced you don’t have another issue beyond running it with the cap off now that I realize you’re the same guy asking about lag under acceleration, but it does muddy the waters.

Have you ever visually verified that you have a lightweight Alta crank pulley?

What is the difference between the MIL and the check engine light?
And yes I visually confirmed that I have the 2% enlargement pulley. My Uncle even told me about it.

I know what AKA meant that is not what I am asking. I was asking of MIL would be used for specific types of issues in your car?
