Throwing Belts

Today is the last day of the install of my supercharger pulley. I called Detroit tuned and they said there should be a little bit or no space between the pulley and the shaft. I have a little bit more than a little bit and was just wondering whether I should be worried about throwing belts. Is there a way to push the pulley back more in order to decrease the gap?
Thank You

I don’t remember the spec, and I haven’t seen anyone refer to it on the various pulley install threads, but the pulley kit I purchased had a gap spec in the instructions and we used a feeler gauge when the pulley was installed. I think I got the kit from Way Motor Works so maybe they can help.

Just wanted to ask whether others have a gap between their shaft and pulley and who has it flush. Just want to see if those with a gap have had a problem with their belts.

I took the car out for a drive yesterday and today I checked and only over the supercahrger pulley, the belt was a tooth over. Is this something I should be worried about and what can I do to fix this.

This issue was happening with the previous owner of my mini. They had a shredded belt, then reinstalled a new one. Chunks got intertwined in the pulleys. They would install they belt, then a week later, belt would kick out. Did this four times before they got tired of it and sold it to me.

Ended up removing the supercharger pulley, cleaning that and all of the other pulleys, reinstalled pulley. Hasn't happened since. Might be worth trying

Thanks, was that with the stock pulley or the smaller pulley. I'll check my pulley and make sure it is in all the way and re locktite and retorque the bolts. Thanks for the info. Took it out for a drive yesterday and drove it for an hour and it was fine. This morning I started it up and their was a sound coming from the belt. Could that be because of the tensioner or because the belt was off. Will also contact detriot tuned and see what they say.

Also, what pulley do you have installed, I have a craven speed 17%. How did you take off if, you had the smaller pulley.

Don't take my word for it but....
Back in late August 2021, I bought and installed a brand new 15% (un branded/Chinese?) SC pulley from a seller on Ebay.
Craven Speed was NA. WMW only showed 17% at the time.
The pulley took a bit of tapping (block of wood) to go on. It went on as far it would go/ I could get it without reckless, brute force.
I also ended up with about a 1mm gap between the SC and back of pulley .
Needless to say I was extremely concerned as you are. "Luckily", The pulley, pulley's and belt lined up perfectly. All run smooth and straight.
Haven't thrown or shredded a belt yet.
However, (for the last 8 weeks), I continue to examine it 2wice a week. ....Just to be sure.
So far so good.

Thank You so much, my dad just told me when we’re installing the tensioner that there was a liquid in it and it came from the strut so I am changing out the strut and well see if the belt stays on. I love to beat on my car on the street so I will probably check daily as it’s not had to see if it’s not aligned but once again thank you for the information

What year is your MINI?

Sometime during the 2004 model year the passenger side motor mounts were changed to the fluid filled mounts. These are known to fail and leak black hydraulic fluid. They’re just a few inches away from the tensioner so the fluid could also be from that.

The tell tale sign is a black stain on the frame rail. Also, if you plan to clean up the stain or any other painted part under the hood or rear hatch jamb, the paint is not clear coated and will wipe away with most solvents and cleaners.

My car is February 2006. And i pulled the pin out of the tensioner when I took it out by accident and we tried compressing it by hand before screwing it into a board of wood so I am most certain that the strut is the problem but we’ll see until the part comes in
