Am I doing this right? Reset brake pad sensor light

Hi,

I have tried searching for this but I am getting conflicting information. I got my 2004 mini S a couple months ago, and the brake light was on. The read pads were pretty low, so I changed them and at that time I cut the wires for the pad sensor and soldered them together. This will be a weekend car for me, so I will just check the pads regularly enough.

After that i searched online and on this forum for the correct light reset procedure. I found 3 different ways to do this:

1. put ignition in position 2 for 30 seconds
2. put ignition in position 1 for 15 seconds
3. use the button on the speedo to enter the menu and reset

I have tried all of these, and I am not getting it to reset. In case the front sensor was the one causing the issue, i cut those wires as well and soldered them.

I want to be sure that I am actually resetting this correctly before I start digging into wiring and connectors, etc. Can you please let me know what the correct procedure is?

Sorry for an obvious question, but is there a brake fluid sensor? Could that be it? I should know this because I have swapped out my brake master cylinder, but I can't recall, duh!

I am not sure if there is a fluid sensor, seems like there would be. The light on my speedometer is left of the airbag light. I was thinking this is the brake pad sensor light.

Sounds like the brake pad warning light. IIRC, ignition position 2 for 30 sec is the correct method but I've had trouble resetting it before. If the circuit has a little too much resistance the instrument cluster is hesitant to turn the light off. In the past, when replacing a worn sensor, the light refused to go off. I had to unplug the sensor and short the terminals with a paper clip.
Your solder job should accomplish the same thing. But it might be worth checking them just to be sure.

key on in power mode but don't start the car and let it sit 30seconds only and the light should automatically turn off , no need to do anything else . If it doesn't, it's not making a connection and you need to 2x check those finicky sensors.
Just take your sensor wires and splice them and wire them together( front and rear ) make sure you get a good chunk of wire exposed to do so as it often cracks fron heat above in the loom. So 2x check for that and splice it high as possible, I had the same issue with the light coming and going as the sensor never fit perfect in the new pads..and I don't need a light telling me pads are low , so I just spliced the wires together to make a complete circuit and keep that dumb thing off for good.
