Glovebox pops open

Hello,

I am curious if anyone has had an issue with the glovebox popping open when you hit a bump?

anyone found a fix? Any tips or tricks?

Currently I wrapped a small piece of electrical tape around the end to give it a bit more “bite” but a good bump and pop.

Seems to be a common problem and mine does the same thing. From my understanding they offered an upgraded one.

I had kind of forgotten about this, as I have not been driving mine for the last four years, but my 03 MCS has this issue/quirk too. If there is a simple fix that does not involve duct tape, I'd like to know...

I tried several fixes with no luck, but then just stuffed a little bit of carpet pad foam into the inside of the latch on the cover. It's still working after a nummber of years. You do have to press on the button when it closes, but no more popping open. Maybe worth a try...

It’s been a very long time but I recall messing with mine and being able to adjust the latch so it didn’t do it. Must have worked, that was like 15 years ago and the thing hasn’t popped open since.

my down and dirty fix has seemed to hold up “better” than prior. I took a piece of electrical tape and stuck it on the “hook” or glovebox side.

It’s still not perfect BUT it holds up significantly better than before. Next thought is to build a layer of epoxy onto the “hook.” Aside from replacing the spring which would be a nightmare to access and then source - the epoxy is all I can think of…

Mine did the same thing and I took it a part and made some adjustments. Been good since.

ha, I thought this was a special aftermarket feature. Following along for a useful "try" of a fix

I don’t remember exactly what I did, just remember taking it apart and readjusting I think the latch. There was definitely room to move the latch and or hinges to make it better than it was. Every time I hit a bump it would come open.
