Steering Angle Sensor Programming?

When replacing the steering angle sensor on a Mini R53 , is reprogramming required or can you just clear the codes with the Swaben Professional BMW/Mini scan-tool?

I simply cleared the code with a Snap On Modis scan tool and all was good. That was about 8 months ago.
