05 Hyper Blue vs 04 Indi Blue

I was wondering if it was me or what. It seems to me that the Hyper blue on the www.miniusa.com web page is a shade Darker than what Indi Blue was. But in reality isn't it backwards... Hyper blue being a half a shade Lighter?

Now that MrsDiff has seen it she has asked me to consider a Madam Blueberry [Vegietails] over Goldeneye....

It's you.

Sometimes the website isn't anything close to reality, sometimes it is. HB is definitely lighter than IB. It's a nice color, but IB is better.

While Indi Blue Metallic was darker, it's no better or worse than Hyper Blue Metallic. With Indi Blue it was hard to tell the car was blue in low light conditions. By the light of a street lamp you can tell a Hyper Blue car is blue.

I've never had a problem telling my (IB) car is blue -- in any light, including moon. And I've never encountered anyone in low light conditions who thought my car was any other color.

It always looked a little black to me at night.

I dont have an Indie Blue Mini, so I'm unbiased... I totally agree with these 2 fellas. Indie Blue is better than Hyper Blue.

I got my '04 IB just because I didn't like the color of the HB. Oh and with the black top no one ever questions if my car is blue.

Hyper Blue has not been a popular choice as Indy Blue was. Here in Miami I see 20-40 MINIs every single day and since HB was intriduced last summer maybe I have seen only 2 or 3 MCS wearing it!

I think Hyper Blue is a pretty color and I also think it was pretty dumb of MINI to dump Indy Blue (Velvet Red was another victim replaced in favor of the unpopular Solid Gold).

In case you are interested, Hyper Blue is also now available in the Cooper model beginning 1/2005 production.

IB the way to go. For whatever reason (unrelated to opinion) lots of the cars I see selling on Ebay have been HB...at least when I was looking.

To me...

HyperBlue is pretty like a fairy.
IndiBlue is cool like a sports coat.

IB vs. HB

I pulled my IB next to a HB on the dealer lot. I like the IB better and there is a difference however so slight (IMO). Maybe MINI thought the market was becoming too IB. I know around here I see a lot of them.

I like my Hyper Blue MCS just fine, thankyou all. And yet, somehow I don't feel the need to trash Indi Blue. Pretty like a fairy? What kind of a comment is that?

U guys who have IB really crack me up You all say that u like it better than HB. Give me a break. First of all the two colors look very similar, if u owned a HB and MINI came out with IB as the new color, u guys would say that you liked HB better. Funny how everyone wants to think they made the right choice because they already own the car. Thats all good, but if u have an IB, don't knock the HB. It's not that drastically different than IB.

I could have received my MCS sooner, but I wanted IB; it wasn't available until the '03 model year. the first production week for '03 was 09/06/02, and that is what I got. I still wonder if I got the first IB MCS off the line (I wish I could find-out). I know that I got the first at my dealership...

With all of that said, I was and remain not totally satisfied with it. I wanted something more flat, less sparkly, like the original Minis. From my choices, and even looking at HB, I would probably choose it again though...

Big Blue Banter

I own an Indi Blue, and, to me, all the blues are cool.

Check out the 3 Blues in this pic.

Not so, Fidge... If HB had been my choice when purchasing my MINI I would have gone with the EB as I'd originally planned. I quite honestly don't like the color, as I feel it can't decide if it wants to be light blue or dark blue -- so it splits the difference and it doesn't work for me.

I chose IB because it's super rich and appeared fathoms deeper when standing beside my initial color choice. I'd not have experienced that with HB.

Of course, it's all a matter of opinion. I'm just saying that I'm not sticking up for it because I already have it.

I've been confusing HB for EB. Seems the difference between IB and HB is negligable and moot anyway since only one is offered anymore. Either way, with all the chrome you can get, black stripes, tinted windows and clear rear lamps it would be extremely tight.

I have an IB now and a HB on order. I had my car parked next to a HB at the dealer and the color difference was very slight. It is slightly lighter (i would have preferred slightly darker), but It was still my favorite color choice. I would have gone for black but I know I would go nuts trying to keep it looking new.

Just got my 05 MCS HB/W... absolutely love teh color. I like IB too, they both are about the same to me... its a beautiful car no matter what! I even think it looks good in solid gold (there was a user on here who had the aero kit and solid gold, it looked great!).

I just surprised my wife tonight with her new MCS... she absolutely loves it... she loves teh color and all... can't wait to get to 1250!

You guys crack me up with your needless in-fighting.

Anyway, IMHO HB is a fantastic rich color with lots of depth of hue and great metallic highlights. It seems to fall right in between the M5 LeMans Blue and Avus blue. After I went to see it in person in both sun (where the shades and highlights came into play) and in rain (where it still 'popped' and looked rich and glowing blue even in the low light) I was actually swayed to change my choice from Chili, in spite of never thinking I'd ever want a blue car before.

Apparently, HB is a very tough color to photograph accurately, after seeing it in the flesh its clear that photos make it appear much lighter/brighter and flatter then it actually looks.

I was a IB fan prior to receiving my HB MCS. Since I was placing my order and looking at lots in July/ August I was choosing between the two. I have to say I really like the HB color.

Personally to me the big difference is:

IB= Better fuel economy
HB= Better acceleration thanks to the new gear ratios and tiny hp bump

Just a thought.
