[SOLVED: S.A.S CODED] DSC / TPMS Light on

Hi,

My DSC and TPMS light are constantly on. (The other lights go off, this is the only pic I have at the moment)

I purchased a scanner (
Amazon Amazon
) to identify what would be causing this issue, believing most likely to be a wheel speed sensor.

The scanner identified 3 codes...

5E1F - Vehicle Identification number different
5E16 - CAN connection to instrument cluster
5E43 - Steering-angle sensor, internal.

If I clear the codes, all 3 return within about 0.5 - 1 mile of driving.

I have tried 'data streaming' (Viewing sensor values in real time) the wheel speed sensors hoping I would see one sensor reporting 0 or obviously off, but all wheel speed sensors appear to be reading similar values, bearing in mind it was just me in the car so makes it difficult to look at the stats in real-time while also driving the car.

Strangely I dont have an ABS light on (I would think this would also come on if it was a wheel speed sensor issue)

Any suggestions on how to approach this? Might it still be a wheel speed sensor but not being shown correctly by my device ?

5E43 - Could my wheels need aligning ?
5E16 - Not sure exactly what this means, but the digital readout on my cluster does not work (not sure how this relates to flagging DSC / TPMS lights?)
5E1F - A used part used in the past not coded to the vehicle ? (Im not sure how to diagnose this one further?

Any advice welcomed

5E43 - Bad alignment will not cause this. If it happens to be a bad sensor the new one will need to be calibrated and I don't think your scan tool has that capability.
5E16 - The CAN is the network that connects all the control modules in the vehicle and allows them to communicate with one another. The DSC module cannot communicate with the instrument cluster for some reason and it can be difficult to properly diagnose.
5E1F - Yes, it's likely the previous owner replaced the module with a used one and did not properly code it. This should be an easy fix with the proper coding tool. Furthermore, I wouldn't be surprised if the other fault codes are also caused by an improperly coded module. I recommend trying to resolve this issue first.

Does resetting the TPMS cause the lights to go away?

A faulty steering angle sensor will cause the DSC and TPMS lights to stay on.

Thanks for the advice.

After some further googling it appears as though I am suffering with this issue... https://www.mini2.com/threads/dsc-ru...6/#post-591276

My scan tool does allow me to view real-time steering angle value in degrees, but it is reporting a constant 1440 degrees regardless of steering wheel position.

It looks like fixing / replacing the S.A.S will solve this issue.

However, I believe I will need to perform a Steering Angle Sensor Adjustment / Calibration afterwards which my scanner does not support.

Also, I believe if I was to install a new S.A.S (part num is 37-14-6760-232) it needs to be coded to the vehicle ? Something which my scanner cannot do. My understanding is the coding of the new part needs to be performed before you can do an S.A.S adjustment / calibration ? can anyone confirm?

With this in mind I was considering returning my Scan tool and acquiring a Foxwell NT510 Elite which does allow S.A.S adjustment and some module coding.

Trying to find official NT510 Elite documentation on module coding is a little confusing. Some documentation suggests it can do coding (limited) while some suggests it cannot.

I find a statements such as "
Provided that a module can be re-coded, NT510 allows for the coding and programming of a replacement control module or changing previously stored incorrect coding as expensive factory tools do.", being a little contradicted with statements like "While you won't actually be able to do coding and programming, you can perform active tests and relearn new components. That means you can use the tool to replace components like battery and sensors and to relearn steering angle position, throttle position etc."... taken from https://www.foxwelltool.co.uk/wholes...e-and-obd.html

NT510 manual
http://bd8ba3c866c8cbc330ab-7b26c6f3..._Scan_Tool.pdf

Page 28 section 5.4 "Coding And Programming" suggests this would do I what I need

NT510 Elite
https://www.foxwellstore.com/upload/...3121568003.pdf

No mention in this manual of "Coding and Programming'

I would of thought / hoped the 'Elite' version would incorporate all the functionality of the 510.

Can anyone confirm if the NT510 Elite would be able to resolve my "
5E1F - Vehicle Identification number different" issue.

I am aware NCS Expert / INPA / ISTA D/P etc... which would be able to do what I need but I dont have a laptop to install the required software.

Thanks in advance.

One thing I neglected to state (because I wasnt aware when I first posted) is that under the LEW sub-section I also had the code "0B Sensor/vehicle allocation incorrect or not available". Combined with the 5E1F and 5E43 codes from the DSC sub-module it gave more weight (in my mind) to the issue being the sensor not coded to the car.

I managed to get a friend of a friend of a friend to have a look at my issue with a snap-on scanner. Essentially he done what ever he needed to do to code it to the car and hey presto! Steering Angle Sensor was now reading a value in live data, the lights went off and they havent come back on after several miles of driving.

I have mixed emotions haha, on the one hand im super happy its fixed, on the other hand its so annoying that these things have to be coded before they can be used properly... if I want to change something myself, changing the part is not sufficient, ive also got to tell the car that is been changed, and doing that is easier said than done.

So on a slight tangent... does anyone know of a reasonable priced (£150 ish) tool that will allow you to code things? I could of had this sorted ages ago if only I could of told the computer!

Thanks in advance
