Persistent P0456 Code - upcoming inspection, cold start stumble
So I know this code could be anything, but it’s been plaguing me for the past month or two. I have an inspection coming up before the end of July, and this code will probably fail me (NYS).
On cold starts sometimes it seems like the car doesn’t want to start, it starts then stumbles the revs dip then come back. The exhaust rattles horribly below 1000rpm, but that’s a separate issue most likely.
I took it to the mechanic, said he found a small leak in one of the evap lines near the fuel tank and tightened it. Out $65 for diagnosis and labor. Cleared the code, light comes back on a few days later.
Check the gas cap O-ring, seems fine but I replace it with a whole new gas cap anyway. Clear the code, light comes back.
Next thing I’m thinking of is the purge valve canister on the passenger side, but if this doesn’t fix it then maybe it’s time for a dealer diagnostic. I just don’t want to keep spending money on a mechanics diagnosis, when that didn’t fix the SES light.
Any ideas? Was thinking the charcoal canister maybe if the the purge valve replacement part doesn’t fix it.
