Running One Lap, need advice / opinions

My Dad is planning on retiring next year, and I was thinking about putting together an effort to run One Lap of America with him as a kind of celebration. I'm working up a budget and planning list and could use some thoughts.

First off, the car. We are going to participate not to win. I don't have the resources for that. It's a choice between his 991 Porsche or my Mini. I think we are going with the Mini. No doubt the 991 will be faster but it is more expensive to run and to break. I bought the Mini for this stuff. It'll be cheaper to prep, run, break and repair. Plus it's fun.

So questions...
  1. Anyone run OLOA in a Mini? Any thoughts or experience to share?
  2. I'm looking at getting the hidden hitch so we can drag a trailer with stuff. Any concerns? Is the one on Mini Mania good?
  3. What trailer? It needs to be able to carry a spare wheel/tire and stuff. I'd want it to be enclosed and be able to go at a reasonable pace on the highway sections.
  4. Anyone have experience getting sponsorship or running an event in support of a charity? Both are options, and I'd like to do both if possible
  5. Anything not obvious I should be asking?
  6. What race seat is recommended? I'm a tall guy (6'3"), so is my Dad. I'd like it to be adjustable to be more comfortable on the highway stuff. Light is better. And it needs to accept at least a 4 point harness.

Thanks!

Umm, for what year ? Seems that you may be a little late to "start" a build for this year, correct?
What the hell, it's only "one half" of the US ?

1. First and foremost, get a rule book. Memorize it
2. Build per the rule book (safety), first
3. Build for comfort, second
4. Tires for longevity first, traction second
5. Stay away from the "cute" stuff. Build for the race.
6. "Not obvious"...again, the rule book shall be your friend
7. Find info on previous races and the cars that were run AND finished. STUDY them
8. Trailer...that would be up to..YOU...right ? Small, light (aluminum), (I'd also go for short in height).
9. Remember, weight IS...your enemy. You'll need to add some things, but adding unneeded weight, is a bad thing. Again, no "cute" stuff

Sounds like fun
Have a good time with your dad

Mike
