I'm wondering what's the difference between the 04 engine and wire harness vs the 06... my car is an 04' buuuut I tore into my engine awhile back and found it was not a matching numbers engine. Then I have run into a few fitment issues when it's come to ordering sensors and parts as I'm not 100% which model eng and harness I have.. I'm wondering becuase I purchased an alternator for an 04' mini s hardtop and I received my alternator and the power wires bolt and shaft are larger on the new one and tge new one has a plug with 2x prongs in it and my one on my engine has a connector with 3x prongs. So ofcourse the alternator didn't then fit. I also had ordered an 04 cranksensor and that too had a different style connector on it too.. I also ordered a pcv and again , that was different too.. and I specifically ordered all my parts for an 04 mcs that didn't fit.
Now, are the map sensors then pre vs post different part numbers and or the 02 sensors ? I'm wondering becuase I've had these fitment issues now and just wanna hopefully forsure somehow determine what year eng n stuff I have so that when I order my sensors and stuff in the future I make sure to get the exact/correct one needed...
any info you guys might have on this subject and the differences plz chime in..

My R53 is an 06 that I got as a parts car with a blown motor. I got an 05 engine with harness (can’t confirm, was just told an 05) and installed it. Darn thing would barely start and would not stay running. Also had a bunch of dash lights and ignition acted weird.

Decided to put on the original 06 harness and everything runs perfectly. So there is some differences.

 

Daaaang , that bad hey ? Wow. I wouldn't have guessed there would be that much of a change but I'm finding more and more and lol it's a head ache at a time... maybe if I could get a look at exact wiring diagram of an 03 and an 06 side by side...
