Ok about a ago, bought an 02 MCS with 63k Mike’s on it. Solid car I wanted a hard top since I have already and restored with many custom parts a 06 R52 JCW.
As you know for a 19 year old car, it needed lots of TLC. Color is dark silver with white roof and black panther leather.
I started with the body, removed all dents, hood and front bumper paint corrected, replaced all front bumper trim, new wiper arms and blades, new cowl grills, rear bumper refinished due to heavy scuffs, both sides of car refinished because previous owner had someone detail car and burned the clear off certain sections, new tail lights, all wheel arches were repainted with bumper paint, front headlights were polished up, wheels were refinished in white color, mirrors were refinished, rear brakes new rotors and pads, front I installed my JCW front calipers since I did BBK on my R52 and installed on the 53 with new rotors and pads. Also, new door handles. Hood will get white stripes as well.
Updated headlight bulbs with LEDs as well as fog lights.
Interior new headliner and the rear boot door jam, the white portion will get repainted since previous owner used harsh chemicals and took paint off. I got dark silver door panels and center console tubes in anthercite which dash is patina silver a bit of contrast but look sharp.
Full detail when done and I will have a very nice looking R53 with original window sticker as well since it came with car.
These cars will go up in value. Driver side prior restoration Rear of Mini prior restoration Prior restoration wheels were sprayed painted Driver side refinished Wheels refinished Front of car prior restoration Driver side refinshed Passenger side refinished Passenger side JCW calipers installed
Just have to remove all panels and access screws of headliner to pull it out from the back.
any upholstery shop can do it.
plenty of how to’s and videos on replacing the headliner material. It’s easy to do and can save $100s. You can get material at sewing shops and on-line.
Here are some updated pics on my refitted 02 R53 that I brought back to life. Only thing pending now is new lower control arm bushings, fix a couple of oil leaks and a detail wax outside. The outside either was wet sanded and buffed and or painted. Interior was fully detailed. She looks amazing!
