Recently picked up an R53, 2005 Mini Cooper S. It has the factory Xenon Headlights w/power wash. The auto-leveling on the passenger headlight makes a loud noise and does not move when lights are turned on. Can this motor be replaced or will entire headlight assembly need replaced?
It might be the ball and socket joints to aim the projector have popped loose inside the headlight. This can happen if the hood is slammed or the car hits a big bump or pothole. You can see them in the pics below.
Remove projector bulb cover to access ball and sockets for the projector.
