Why would’t DME/ECU come out?

Any trick to getting the DME out? I have the harness connectors off and out of the way. June 2002 build date cooper S. The DME seems really stuck in there. I was under the impression if it would just lift out. There are two small plastic tabs at the ends that seem to prevent it from rattling and easily push out of the way so they aren’t the issue. It’s as if it was bolted in or super wedged because there is no way I can shift it at all. Tried a hook tool down the side and under it to pull it up and couldn’t budge it at all with two hands and considerable upward force. No signs of water getting in the box ever. Removed the fuse box cover and air filter cover to ensure they weren’t pinching the plastic DME box or hiding a bolt. What is holding it in there? Has this happened to anyone else?

the box appears to be molded as part of the air filter bottom. Maybe take that out and drill a large hole in the bottom to push it out....seems extreme.

There are two plastic clips on either end. You need to push away from ECU to release an pull up.

And even then they are a bit snug to pull up easily. I usually will push back one tab pull up the ECU on that corner then do the same on the other side then wiggle the ECU out. Hope that helps.

Got it out, The tabs weren’t the problem. It was really wedged in there so tight it couldn’t wiggle. Got it out by removing the air filter and that gave access to two cutouts under the DME from within the air filter box and used two screwdrivers and a pivot to put even pressure through both holes forcing it up just enough to release the wedge pressure. Hope this helps anyone else with the same issue. Thanks.
