window stuck open

Hi everyone, my passenger window is stuck open and won't come up enough to get the glass detached from the regulator assembly.
I was driving along and the passenger noticed the window wasn't completely closed, put it up and there was a loud crack. After we stopped I thought it was a good idea to open it all the way and close it again (in hindsight, it was not). It went down just fine but never came back up.

It will come up about half an inch, the motor spins and the cable moves. Only the front (hinge) side of the assembly moves, the back part of the assembly is stuck at the bottom of the guide and won't budge.

I know I'm up for a new regulator assembly but right now I can't get the thing out without breaking the glass. Any thoughts?

You have the interior door panel off?

Getting the glass off of the regulator is normally fairly easy. It is stuck on something else?

Interior door panel is off. I can't get at the toothed washers that hold the glass on the regulator assembly with the window in the down position and it won't budge up at all. Maybe I need to cut the wire but it doesn't seem to be the part that's stuck because when I try to put it up I can see the wire turning on the pulley.

If I had the official BMW tool I could probably get at the washers with the window in the down position but as it is I can barely brush them with my fingertips.

At this point you may as well cut the wires until you can lift the glass enough to loosen the toothed washers.
