I am still learning about MINIs, but in BMWs when similar symptoms occurred, it was caused by a defective Auxilliary water pump. This pump is responsible for circulating heated / hot coolant water through the HVAC system, and also separating A/C is selected of cool air is selected. Might be something similar in the MINI? Sorry I can't be more help here.

The steering shaft boot may have come off allowing in hot engine air and extra noise .

Hoping to bring this thread back to life. The issue you're having is more or less a common thing. Maybe not so common that everyone knows about it, but there are a bunch of cases where this exact thing is happening. The heat is coming from the heater core I believe and the simple 'fix' it is to just insulate the lines. I say 'fix' because the heat will still be there, however, it should be reduced significantly. Get some insulation for tubes to wrap around the lines, then get some insulation with a reflective side to help direct the heat away from the pedals. I haven't done this procedure myself but I've read about others who have found success in doing this. I can't believe the engineers decided it would be a good idea to add excessively hot lines right next to your feet while driving... who knows why they did it the way they did. Hope this helps.

If anyone has any other tips for this issue this would be a great time to chip in
