Were you able to program the lock/unlock functions on the new fob without a dealer visit? If so, what steps did you take to do it?

 

As I recall there is a procedure in the Bentley manual, there may be a YouTube video out there as well.

The procedure only works on the later cars and the 3 button keys, IIRC. Grumpy still only has one fully functioning key. I had to use my Autel 906TS to pair even the new Mini key to Grumpy, which is a 2003. I still haven't gotten the aftermarket key programmed because it did not come with information needed to program it.

 

For anyone interested, I had good results getting an exact OEM fitment rechargable Panasonic battery off Ali Express. For my 2006 R53 it was a VL2020 with 105 degree connectors. There are several vendors where these can be ordered (just check store reviews), for under $10. With these exact fit batteries, its SUPER easy to melt the old solder and put a new battery. I’d pop the case apart so you can get at both switches and can see the LED.

Then when you push each switch the LED should light up, then you know the battery and both switches are good.
