R50/53 No Power assisted clutch?
No Power assisted clutch?
I've noticed the clutch in my r53 is heavier and has better feel than other cars I've driven, is there no hydraulic power assist like modern clutches? I'm happy with how it feels, actually, I was just curious because I thought power assisted clutches were common after the early 2000s. I turned the engine off and pumped the clutch several times to see if it would get any heavier, and it didn't, so I'm assuming there's no assist at all?
But then why doesn't it get heavier like my brakes if I pump it when the engine is turned off?
That's because, when you pump the brakes, the calipers fill with fluid which can't be compressed. When you pump the clutch, it pushes a piston in the slave cylinder, then releases from the spring loaded clutch.
