First time poster, long time mini owner. After troubleshooting and inspecting, myself and my mechanic (friend) have concluded that my electrical and engine issues, in my 06 r50, are directly related to my current DME. I have replaced once before, about 2 years ago, but turned out to be the wrong DME all together (replaced by a past mechanic who claimed credentials). The first quote we got was around $1800 for a new OEM DME, which, without much base for the statement, seems a little high. Partially based off the fact that if i were to replace this at cost, the car would only be valued at 3-5k. Def in a bind, this problem is basically the deciding factor if i keep the car or not. Any tips or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

3-5k for a r50, that's 2-3 times what they are worth running.

 

How do you figure? They're for sale in my city avg. 4k...
