Of course, with the image of some MINI owners pulling lawn sprinklers under their cars with strings, I'm starting to wonder how many of you might have been drinking the stuff off the roads. [/QUOTE]

Interesting how they've sampled >500 distilleries but only 3 have the "right stuff", eh? Well,

My husband and I have actually been looking for jobs in Tucson. It was our first place choice. I could probably find a job being in finance, but not sure he would with a degree and no experience in mechanical engineering. He applied at Raytheon twice, with no luck.

Raytheon is a hard place to get into (but also one of the best). There are alot of manufacturing jobs here. Alot of airospace and mineing equpment are produced here. Me, I'm software... I'm still waiting for my big break but I just moved here.

Yoh company and Manpower (staffing firms) have offices here.

That's a terrible site. I hate rust!!!!!! There's GOT to be something other than flying bee bees of salt they can use. Better yet, they should just do what the do in Erie. Just learn to drive on it. The side streets in Eriemaybe get plowed once in a while, but for the most part, it just gets packed down and more snow falls. Have I mentioned I hate salt!?

My poor Dobby is crying I think. Oh my goodness, there is such a huge coating of salt on his rear end. He's IB, yet he looks grey. :( It's starting to do something weather wise each day which means the &*$#ing salt trucks are out. The roads are white thanks to the huge coating of salt they laid down.

My poor car. I knew it would happen, but not this bad. First day over freezing where I am off work, he's going into the garage and getting a much needed bath...

Hate the salt too!!

"Newt" arrived in April of '04 and I have been dreading this weather all summer. I'm literally freaking out on the inside when it snows knowing the salt trucks are out in force. Sure it is nice to have snow free roads, but I grew up in Alaska and they never used salt! Why just the Great Lake states or rust belt as I know now.

I have an insultated garage which helps melt the snow overnight due to retension of the engine heat (averages 45 inside), but I don't have a drain in the garage. I insist on hand washing my car myself everytime, but I've found the best wash possible when I can't handwash.

There is a Laserwash on the corner of West 210 and Loraine Ave in Fairview Park. It is completely touchless and the best part, the very second you pull into the wash bay, there is a high powered chassis bath that activates via sensors. The best part is you can drive in as slowly as you want and thoroughly clean the underside!! It is truly relieving!

It the best I can do living on the West side of Cleveland. If you're a west sider, give it a shot. It is worth the $8.00! Wishing a rustless life! Good thing the '04's have a 12 rust through warranty! Motor On in the snow!

I use a touch less wash with the same under car high pressure wash, works great, and yeah go slow. But it does not cost 8 bucks, more like 6 unless you go for the ultra premium.
I go to a wand wash once a week where they give you some drying time inside in the winter, and they have high pressure heated air nozzles for locks, hidges, door jambs.
I wash the car in the winter to keep the crud off,its to cold to detail
I costs me 10-15 bucks a week to keep the car clean in the winter.Worth ever penny

Try off roading?

Well, when I've had enough of what the salt trucks dish out, nothing makes me happier that driving through a creek on my way home.

OMG, tell me that is not a car of yours, Malia? I feel sorry for that unfortunate soul, but have to say assuming the person has insurance, that's pretty hysterical...

We get that here in arizona. During the monsoon season, the washes fill with watter and run over the roads. People drive in them and flood out there car. Its so bad that we have a "Stupid Motorist Law". If there are signs blocking the road and you drive you car into the watter, you have to pay what the city pays for the rescue team to get you out.

AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

I did a brief wash last night - you know, get off the one inch layer of salt and grime covering the car...

And wouldn't you know, I got splashed to hell with salt again this morning!!!

I'm thinking I just need to give it up and live with a filthy MINI until April and hope for the best that the *&*%^$&% salt doesn't do any major damage to anything.

I HATE OHIO!!!!!!!!!!!

If I manage to get my Mini dirty in the winter time, I take her to a self serve touchless powerwash (that includes bottom). Then I sit in the Mini for a while to let asmuchwaterdripoffaspossible Once I get her warmed up in my garage, I'll go over it again with a sponge bath and then a proper dry off

Well, I have a garage that if it's above freezing, I can wash my MINI. However, it's the underneath of the car that I am concerned about. Those of you that live in a snowy winter climate know what I'm talking about. All Four Letter words: SNOW=SALT=RUST.

I know it could be taken to a car wash, but they can't just do the underside of the car can they? I wouldn't dare let those auto scrubbers/punishers touch my Dobby.

Suggestions?
We just moved (June) to C FL from northern Cinci. My '97 Dakota truck was kept outside (didn't fit into the garage with the bike (M/C). I'd wash it but never thought to do an underspray wash. My wife takes her Sebring through the car wash and usually does the underside. About 1 1/2 months ago I found I had a brake line problem. The lines looked so bad I was amazed they held up as long as they did. To make a long story short, all the lines/parts had to be replaced because of rust.
Happy ending - Sold truck, new Mini coming tomorrow (or Fri.)

Move to FL, it's warm (usually). We extended our M/C riding season (soon to be replaced by new Mini I'm sure).

I'm in that boat as well. I only live about 30 minutes north of you (hey, I'll be in copley for xmas) but I feel your pain. My black capped mirrors are white, the chili red is quite grimy right now. But giving Yomiko a bath, like you said, is pointless almost. Good thing I waxed right before this crap.

and I hate Ohio, too, but not for the salt, I have other reasons.

Here in Philly, we had a slight flurry this past weekend. Nothing stuck. But I think we had a 1" accumulation of road salt. Talk about overkill. My parking lot at work looks like the Bonneville Salt Flats!

I emailed our county road commission a couple of days ago asking if they could apply a bit of logic when it comes to salting the roads and perhaps reconsider their practice of dumping inches of salt on top of light dustings of snow. I'm not expecting much in the way of a positive response.

Or move up here where it's to cold for salt to work.So they just spread gravel.
You can wash the car at a coin wash all the time, just wipe down all the window and door seals, and at least the car is clean.

This morning I realized this is the dirtiest I have ever had any car. Except where the wipers wipe, I can't see out any other part of any of the windows. It's also the first time I've looked forward to the rain, as it will finally clean off all this salt and crud tonight!

No need...the cars are undercoat and use galvanized sheet metal. That's how they offer the corrosion warranty.

The salt will come off in the spring...until then use the coin op when its above 32.
