My 2005 JCW came with the Sport Link bike carrier that's welded to the base but I'd like to have a hitch receiver. Since the new attachment bases are out of stock/production, is there any problems with cutting the bike carrier portion off the square tubing and drilling the two holes for the 1 1/4" receiver attachment? I assume the newer style attachment bases are basically the same with just mounting holes drilled through. Is there any additional reinforcement?
