R50/53 Fuel leak from...what's it called??
Fuel leak from...what's it called??
A few months ago I began smelling gasoline from both inside and outside my car that I narrowed down the source to the vicinity of the gas tank. I thought maybe a fuel pump seal was leaking, so I stopped filling my tank full, filling halfway instead. The leak persisted.
Today, while servicing my car I decided to pull the rear seat to check the fuel pump for a leak. I confirmed the unit on the passenger side is cracked on top and has a small leak when the pump is running so my strategy of only half filling tank is pointless.
So I get on fcpeuro to price the part but what is it?? I see something called a fuel level sensor (right) for one price and something called a fuel filter for $90 more. I know there's a fuel filter in this part that's leaking because I replaced it a couple of years ago (the filter element only). There is no electrical connector visible from outside of the gas tank but there is a fuel line attached to it. The unit on the driver side has the electrical connector so these 2 units must be connected inside the tank.
There are some pictures on the website but they all look like what is in my car. It could be a fuel level sensor, a fuel tank sending unit or a fuel filter according to pictures or descriptions. Do any of you know what it is?
