Radio steering wheel controls inop?

Does anyone know why the steering wheel radio controls would not work? When I bought the '05 MCS there was dried spills all over the car including that area on the steering wheel. So could that have shorted it out or the previous owner had installed a Iphone jack that runs in the glove box to the radio so you can play music from the phone and that does work but could that disable the steering wheel function?

As long as the radio is original the iPod hookup doesn’t make a difference.

Pull the button out of the steering wheel (torx screw on back) and take it apart and clean the inside and put it back together to see if it’ll work. If not the button is most likely bad.

Does your cruise control work? All of these are on the same harness.

I tried taking it out but can't get it out due to air bag. I take it it has to be removed first?
