Glad I got it cheap
My new-to-me 2002 R53 is about to get the following:
Not exactly turn-key purchase...but I already love this thing My other car is a Land Rover Defender...my garage is a sort of Mini-Maxi situation.
- New upper and lower engine stabilisers
- New L&R front wheel bearings
- New L&R lower control arm bushings (ball joint tool and special BMW LCA tool ordered)
- New cabin air filter
- New struts (bought spring clamps)
- New upper strut plate/bushing
- New under strut reinforcement plates from Mini Mania (after I bash the strut towers flat again)
- 4 new tyres
- New hatch struts
- Complete fluid renewal (all of them)
- DIY cold air intake with K&N cone
- One-ball mod

Man those LCA bushings were absolutley-destroyed. Came apart in pieces...the alignment had been done not long ago by the previous owner....have no idea how they achieved that with the LCA wiggling side to side about 10mm. It's a well-card for vehicle with relatively low miles, but 17 years has not been kind on the rubber bushings.
