R50/53 Mini names
In the 37 years since I bought my first car (a 1948 Chevy named Jezibel), I've only named a few of the many I've owned. I took delivery of my CR/W '05 MCS/JCW 10 days ago, and his name is Norbert (after the baby dragon in the Harry Potter movie).
My advice on a name is don't force it, it will come. My wife christened my MCS "Wild Mouse," which was a roller coaster ride at the local amusement park she used to go to as a kid. It was one of those small roller coasters that took really fast sharp turns.
So whenever we take a spirited corner, the kids say "Wild Mouse!"

Blubelle is my 2003 IB/W MCS. Her name is obviously derived from her paint plus the fact that as she is from the border town of Cincinnati, she can qualify as a "belle" of the southern persuasion.
"Gigi" is my 1969 MGC. Named by my twins before they could properly pronounce MG, just GG came out, hence Gigi .
"The MG" is my 1962 MGA. Rather than give this car a "proper" name, I decided to refer to it in a more revered tone, kind of like using "judge" or "doctor" when refering to a learned friend.
"Emma" was my 1971 Lotus Elan +2 S/130. Named for the Diana Riggs character Emma Peel from the t.v. show The Avengers (Emma Peel drove a Lotus Elan in the program).
Somehow I've only named my British cars, as they seem to all have personalities of their own. I'v never had a Japanese, German or American car with so much "character" as my English cars. Maybe if I did have one so inclined, it too would merit a name.

Had the name before I picked up the car
My 2003 IB/W (all packages) Mini Cooper is named the "Chicken Coop". I have these little wooden chickens that I got at CostPlus Imports that ride on the dash board. I had them before I purchased my Mini and they decided on the name. When I take a curve to fast, the chickens fly out of their slots on the dash. They had a blast when we went to the Phil Wicks driving academy.
My family thinks I'm nuts because I have always named the family's cars:
My 1988 Nissan 300ZX--- The Blue Rocket (not really a rocket)
My 1992 Toyota Corolla Wagon--- The Battlewagon
My husbands 2002 Toyota Avalon--- The Ava-yawn
My son's 2001 Camaro SS --- The silver coffin
My stepson's 1994 Maroon Honda Civic--- The purple thud

She is named Hal after a great family friend Robin "Hal" Patrick was not only a friend, but an incredible race mechanic and classic mini racer...As a young lad I used to watch him crush all the V8 cars on the track by passing them in the turns! LOL he was a great guy and really helped me on the way to the Motorer. He was killed in an auto accident on the way to the races many years ago...and is missed.
The name for our 06 MCS is still in the works. The kids decided on Peppermint Patty since it is Pepper White, but it just doesn't ring for me. It is getting abbreviated to Peppy which is appropriate in multiple ways. I'm partial to Fenimore, but nobody else likes it. . . .
We have always named our cars, or their names just sort of emerge over time:
2002 Honda Odyssey: Moby (the white whale)
1996 Volvo 850: Jack (short for Black Jack as the car is . . . . black!)
2002 Volvo S60: didn't like the car, didn't name it . . . .
1991 Volvo 740 Turbo Wagon: Big Red
1989 Mazda 323 Sedan: Ito (from the license plate)
1985 Volvo 240 Wagon: Boxy
1981 Toyota Corolla Wagon: Michika
1974 Datsun 610 Wagon: Piolin (Spanish for Tweety Bird, the car was yellow)
1968 Mercedes Benz 230S Sedan: The Black Maria
1967 Mercedes Benz 230S Universal Wagon: Finster
1967 Volkswagen Fastback: Fibi or Pheobe (derivative of FB for FastBack)
1963 Corvair Turbo Spyder: Charlotte
1963 Ford Thunderbird: La Bomba (it was pink . . . from the factory)
1958 ****** Wagon: Rex

I bought my MINI as a retirement gift to myself and as my "get to and from school" vehicle. As an adjunct professor of economics and statistics, I figured that "MR ECON" was quite appropriate.
Naming is a personal preference. My MINI is still in production, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to call it "Toby" as that's the first name that came to mind when I completed customizing on "Build your own" on MINIUSA.com. It just seems to fit, and it's british sounding
I wouldn't call it a name, more of a "title."
"The Short Bus" came about as i was driving through Bumpass and spotted, of course, a short bus. Looking it over, white roof, yellow body, emergency opening on the roof :P, it just kind of fit.
Then my brother had to poke fun that i belonged on the short bus. Haha, kiddo.
I wanted to name it Petrie, because i thought it was a boy... but with Lenore going on the car, i think i'll give it a sex change and name it that

Never named a car before until the MINITOR. It was more of a vanity plate thing since I had to get new plates anyways. Couldnt decide and then it came to me in a dream. Since I have a pair of bullhorns mounted unsafely on the dash, it had to be the MINITOR, half bull half MINI. And all in caps like MINI is because he's bold and yells to be heard.
Mine always have names
2000 Oldsmobile Bravada - Brandy
2003 CR/W Cooper - Beans
2000 Audi A4 - Richard Gere
2003 CR/B Cooper - Jason Statham
2005 Audi A4 - Ini the Audi or Clive
and we're testing out "Grimace" for the on-order 2006 PH MCS

My cooper's name is Mia. License plate is MIA MINI... which in Italian, means "my MINI". Had the name picked out back when the MINI was just starting production, and I was still dreaming of owning one. It took me several years, but I finally got her!
My Brother suggested the name, "The Cuteness". Needless to say, I gave him a "you are so stupid" look and changed the name to "The Zoomness".
Interesting fact: Our MINI was built on St. Patty's Day!

"Gromit" after the dog in Wallace & Gromit shows. My wife and I love those shows and the name just seemed to fit for us (and the car).
Gromit seems happy with his name, especially since we got him his name tag(Euro license plate).

The name of the MINI I ordered last April was going to be 'The Untopable Moss' for the combination of the BRG/G MCSC I ordered and to honor the granddaddy of Cooper drivers Stirling Moss (think '50s). Then my old ride's synchronizers disintigrated and I needed to find a replacement in a hurry. I found my PS/B MCSC within a days drive at an acceptable price so he became -- The Untopable Stirling -- misspelled pun intended.
I had several names in mind. But many were taken by someone else on the license plate. Then one day, I looked at the car and thought he looks just like... Mr. Magoo.
Tell us what kind and color of MINI you have ordered. Then sit back and wait for a flood of suggestions.

I would never have thought to name my car, except for the cultish passion of this community surrounding the MINIs. They really are a car with personality!!!!! I would never have believed it until I drove mine for about a week. l just hope he isn't moody........
My MINI is an 02 MCS Dark Grey w/ White top. I named mine Scooter and he is all boy.... I actually got a vanity plate of "GOT S" here in Arizona.....
Motor On,
