Hi everyone.

Looking for a bit of advice.

I have a 2003 R53, I had it for a while it's still daily driven has a good engine/transmission, problem is that it was hit from behind a while ago and it's ugly. I found a 2005 R53 auto but the transmission is shot there, car overall is in a good condition, and the price is tempting.

The plan is to get the 2005 and to swap there the engine/transmission with the ECU/BCM/Wiring/key etc from my 2003. (I might consider reprogramming the ECU to switch from auto to manual if that is feasible)

Is there any reason this would not work? I know there have been some changes in 2005, but how drastic were they? Also, is the subframe different on auto compared to manual? if so, would a 2003 subframe fit a 2005 model?

Wish I were closer so I could buy the entire engine. A 49k supercharger would be such a score.

There are no real changes that would cause you a problem. Only issues will be electronic ... programing either ECU to match the new combination. Easiest will likely be to have the 2005 ECU reprogrammed to Manual, that way all the other electronics BCM/ASC etc should function as normal (different cars/different options can be a pita).

Probably best to locate someone to do this before laying out any cash.

The mechanicals.. sub frame etc are identical.

Don't forget the clutch pedal...LOL
