Need a rebuilt engine for 2005 mini cooper s.

Can I use a 2011 engine in a 2005 frame or do you have to change transmission or anything?

Anyone know a good place to buy and have a rebuilt engine installed in/near San Jose CA?

Thank you

I'm no expert, but you'd probably have to swap out the ECU at a minimum. Not sure about the engine mounting points. Cars these days are less swap ready given all the electronics.

Nope cant use the aluminum "Prince" engine ('07+) in a first generation car. The only engine that you can stuff in an '05 would be the TriTec engine '02-'06+'07-'08 0n convertibles.

All the Tritec's are not built the same, the Cooper (NO S/C) has a higher compression ratio, and weaker internal parts. The Cooper S Supercharged engine has lower compression and a pretty strong bottom end. The JCW packaged engines for both models used a factory ported head on their respective engine.

I have a mini cooper R53 engine in my 2005 mini cooper s hard top. I can't put a R56 in it even?
I found a shop in Los Gatos CA called BR Racing that looks good to do the engine install. I need to find an engine now, or rely on them to find it for me.

What about a non-mini engine swap? I can't imagine it's literally impossible to put a B16a in a Mini, it might be a pain in the *** but there must be a way to make it work no?

It might not be totally impossible but you are going to spend more trying to make it work than the car is worth. The electronics in theese cars are not easy to work with, plus all the custom parts that will need to be made.

Best place to get a new remanufactured engine that I have found is WAY MOTORWORKS. He has them going at a good price for a complete new engine.

An R56 engine won't fit an R53.

We have new engines, and we also have a few low mileage used engines from wrecked MINI's we're parting out.

If you know someone at the dealer....dealer cost for a remaned engine is roughly $3k. Just throwing that out there...

For the amount of work to make a prince engine work in a 05 you could swap just about any engine in the world in. So why would you chose the prince engine? I'd think for less then the price of a MSRP R53 JCW engine you could get a K series in it making a fair bit more power. Being an aluminum block you might actually cut some weight out of the front end. K24A2's are selling for like $500-800 on the used market. But you'd need a full swap kit and they sell for more.
