Rear driver body thunk

Folks,

2004 R53 with 203k miles on it. In the last 3k miles, I refreshed the suspension bushings, and put in a thicker rear sway bar. I've been hearing a thunk or a clunk behind me on the driver side when I hit rough spots on the road. It sounds like something is either loose or something is hitting the body. The last time I had it up on jackstands, everything seemed tight. The sway bar seems like it's a little close to the frame (1/4) but I don't think that part of the car actually moves, so it shouldn't be an issue. I'm going to pull the interior panel off to make sure my speaker hasn't come loose, but do you have any suggestions on what might be making noise in the rear end?

Thanks!
Duane

2004 MC40 here. You might want to check the exhaust, in particular the hangers. Too much slack (muffler brackets also) will allow the exhaust to move/sway and hit underside areas of the car.

Great suggestion. I'm also going to check the items listed in this post: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...over-help.html

Cheers,
Duane
