Starting car. Engine cranked then stopped. Key does nothing

Tonight, I went to use my coop. I turned the key, the engine cranked solidly and just before it started, it died suddenly and all of the lights on the Coop went out. Further attempts to start did nothing. No lights, no clicking, absolutly nothing. Had to use my wife's car. I don't think it is the battery. Could it be a fuse? Where should I start looking in the morning? A quick search didn't yield much but I migh tnot be using the correct terms to describe the problem.

Did find a reference to a bad connection to the chassis at the battery. Even though it is 2 in the morning, I went out and checked. The nut that tightens the negative cable to the chassis was lose. Just touched it and the lights in the car came on. Just tightened with a wrench and things seem ok. Will take a close look tomorrow.
